Hi there,

I have some hard earned money saved up and on top of that, I got paid a few days ago from work. I am 18, have an iBook which I am really happy with.
I also have an iPod Mini which I've had for around 9 months and I use it every day. I have been wanting to buy something such as Harmon Kardon Soundsticks (which I have always wanted but were always too expensive), Creatures II Speakers, or a digital camera, or something else?

I had a digital camera (Nikon Coolpix 2100) but it is broke (I think) and is out of warranty).

I am not a sound expert. So I'm am a complete difference, so if there isn't a big difference between the soundsticks and the creatures, I would obviously be better off getting the creatures as they are cheaper.

Any of your opinions is valued, whether it be a pretty decent camera which isn't too expensive, or speakers, or something else cool.

Thank you very much for your help,

Keep on saving as long as you are indecisive.
Some day you'll find something you really want - and on that day you will be happy that you didn't waste your money before.

...

How about a chintzy $99 leather sleeve for the iPod? ;)

Lol, I am decisive enough to know I don't want to spend that much money on a iPod case!

I would really like the speakers (soundsticks), but I say to myself '£100 ($175) for speakers?!. I feel it is a lot of money just for speakers. Hmm.

I've got the Creatures, bought from PC World just after Xmas for £49.99. At that price they are good, match the iBook and sound ok to me but I'm no sound expert so look at other reviews. You could hang on and see if the Soundsticks come down again, PC World had those for £67 or £73 recently. I don't know about camera bargains, just have to keep searching - Argos, Boots? - both places to pick up bargains.

I have reserved one set of creatures and one set of the soundsticks. They are basically £50 and £100 respectively. Which one would you choose?

I watch DVDs on my iBook, *occasionally* listen to music etc. I don't want a rubbish product!

I am collecting tomorrow!

I would go with the soundsticks - they sound really good for the money and look great too. I've had mine for a year and I love them.

Just under £100 at Amazon

save it

i would save it until something strikes you as neccessity or extremely cool. if you blow it now on something you just kinda like and then something cool comes out in the near future you are gonna be kicking yourself. save it and be patient.

^ I think that is what I am going to do. You are right. I just 'kinda' want speakers and don't have any real need for them.

Maybe I could wait to see if Apple released this new video iPod, which is atleast rumored.

Thank you everyone for your help. I don't know if this is normal, but I like to buy things because I feel I need to to make myself happy, or to cheer myself up through material possessions. Obviously this is wrong. :(

You could always buy...

;) (wait for the next ipod)

The SoundSticks are amazing quality. I don't have them myself, but the student TV station I'm heavily involved with have a set on each G5 editing system. They're perfect - great bass response, midrange and treble spot on too.

The Creatures actually don't sound bad for their price/size, probably for the reason that they use the same drivers as the SoundSticks (JBL own Harman/Kardon). Just remember the fact that with the creatures you pay £45 (eBay) up to about £65 (Apple Reseller), and get one driver per speaker, wherease with the SoundSticks you get 4 great drivers on each for £90 - £120 depending on where you shop.

I would actually say, too, that the Soundsticks are about four times better.

It's up to you but if you like your sound (and most people do), go for the SoundSticks. Everytime I'm at uni editing another TV show, I get annoyed I've not got a pair of SoundSticks - my £300 hifi system isn't as good...
