if it had the s-pen functionality and the 1080p amoled screen, i'd definitely buy it. but, it looks like that i'll have to wait for the note 3.

Each to their own I guess. To me my 5 inch S4 is the perfect size for a phone..the way it makes the note 2 looks so small is shocking to me. it's basically a tablet.

Exactly.

One year ago it was okay.

Also, one year ago a 6.3" phone wasn't out.

amazing how time changes...

I do think this is a great idea from samsung..they give everybody the option they want. those who want a phone this big it's perfect while not being super costly..the features on this are still pretty good for a top range phone...least this shows you what the note 3 may be close to...

500 euros or about 600$ is hardly what I'd consider "not super costly".

The thing is - is it 'really' giving people what they want.

The Mega 6.3 & 5.9 being dual core and 720p for example without things like S-health and air gestures etc..

Wouldn't people who want a 6.3" device possibly also want the same internals from the S4 fully and not reduced ?

Likewise the S4 Zoom which is basically a mid range phone with the bum backside of the galaxy camera (without the quad core internals) and a smaller 4.3" screen QHD only.

Again wouldn't those who want to mix the galaxy camera with the S4 want the same internals as the S4 and certainly if your buying this for pictures why would you settle for QHD when even the galaxy camera has 720p ?

I can't quite fathom the audience they are actually aiming these at to be perfectly honest.

Yes there are people who want a mid range phone with a big screen, but there are many more who probably want a high end S4 with a 6.3" 1080p screen, and certainly more than 8gb of internal memory.

So whilst yes they offer 'variety' certainly - i'm not sure you can actually say they are offering something for everyone.

Exactly for €500 which is actually $650 why would I pay near high end price for a bigger phone but with lesser screen res and internals ?

Is that what it costs? wouldn't know as not sure it's out here..but what I meant was least they have a range of phones at different styles and prices to suit different peoples needs.

That's what I'm reading it costs.

Two different sources. Crap, wasn't Euros... it was British Pounds.

99% of consumers don't care about specs. Ask anyone off the street how much RAM their phone has or what processor it has. I'd put money down that they wouldn't know. Or even care for that matter. I'd also bet that a significant number of people don't know what dual or quad core actually means...

Not necessarily wholly true. As phones are getting more and more expensive those 'unimportant' specs become even more important.

£500 ($780) is a heck of a lot of money for a dual core, 8gb storage device in 2013 by anyone's estimations.

But that is not the point I was making. The point is that the assertion that Samsung are catering for everyone by putting out so many variations is a fallacy.

There are those who want everything that's in the S4 including quad core processor, 1080p screen, 16gb ram and S-Features and Application in a 6.3 device. But they don't get that option.

If they want 6.3 they have to lose quad core, drop down to 720p and lose 8gb minimum storage.

Oh look yet ANOTHER Galaxy phone from Samsung...

Samsung, just like Sony (who is apparently on it's way to make an Xperia device for every letter of the alphabet) seems to just be milking the Galaxy brand to death with no real and coherent strategy for their products. They just come up with device after device after device hoping for something to stick. I think this dilutes their brand and also shows a lack of confidence in their products, like they have no real vision or goal (aside from, allegedly, giving people "what they want").

At this point I stopped keeping track of which Galaxy or Xperia phone is what. This along with the horrible naming conventions of a lot of the phones is one of my main gripes with most Android OEMs.

Lack of confidence, How so? If anything this just furthers their brand name. Samsung is synonymous with 'choices'. The galaxy line is arguably the most popular smartphone line available right next to the iPhone.

Also I don't really buy into the diluted argument being an issue. Samsung is in the business of selling phones and just because they continue to strengthen their portfolio doesn't mean people will stop buying Samsung phones altogether. At the end if the day regardless of whichever variant you get, the money still goes into their bank account.

yeah i really like s4, it's great to see a bigger screen in the same size. but, i love large screens and the s-pen functionality is awesome, haven't seen it anywhere else, that's why i've decided to wait for the note 3.

on amazon it is $600, but still high for those specs.
