I use a stock Samsung Galaxy S3 and I'm thinking about switching to CM or PA. I heard mixed reviews about reduced battery life. Have you guys switched? Did you notice a dip in battery life?

One ROM or another will not give you an answer. Too many variables impact your battery life, but it is up to you to correct many of them. Wake locks, screen brightness, kernel settings, apps running in the background, etc... all can play a roll.
This is why you can have two identical phones, running the exact same ROM and get vastly different reports of battery life.
I can tell you that most developers don't make ROMs to give the user a sucky experience, which includes battery life. People wouldn't download their stuff if that was the case.

On my HTC One I get probably 20-30% better battery life running HyperdroidAOXP(CM based) than I did running stock HTC Sense 5.0. On a good, solid build of the ROM, your battery life should be pretty close to stock.

Try cyanogen mod 10.1.3. It should be rock solid stable and shouldn't hurt battery. If you want to go more cutting edge, you can try a cm10.2 nightly build.
