What are the prices of these phones in your region? One look at the prices here in Canada will explain why I laugh at Apple's prices in comparison to the higher end hardware of the S6/Edge. For me there's simply no contest in hardware value. I think it's dispicable that Apple even has a 16 GB version at those prices. What's even more sad is that someone would actually agree to pay that price. Yikes!
Again, I'm not here to debate value on subjective things like user experience. This is strictly about what you get in hardware for what you pay. So that being said, looking at the price of the 64 GB iPhone 6+, I would expect to pay about $1300 for a 64GB Note 5. Just for the simple fact the Note 5 will have more premium hardware than the 6+ and the 6S+ for that matter. I simply cannot, in good conscience and simple logic, give a company more money for inferior and less premium hardware.

Forget the S6. Only the Edge should be compared to the iphone 6. The S6 is a Fugly phone.

Your prices above show they are identically priced. However, Samsungs history of cheap TAT means that the edge at the same price of an iPhone 6 is expensive.

In the the UK S6 and S6 Edge prices are more discounted. You will always find the Samsung cheaper than iPhone.

I am expecting that the Note 5 and Edge plus after a month of two will be significantly cheaper than the iPhone 6 let alone the iphone 6S

Here in Ireland the S6 Edge is €50 more than the iPhone 6+

The S6 is basically same price as iPhone 6

All of them are pushing the envelope on pricing and relying on carrier subsidies to drive sales here.

However it's getting to the point where something like a S6 Edge 64gb is still €499 up front + €40 x 24 month contract

The iPhone 6+ 64gb is €449 on same deal.

When you consider Moto X Style will be around €499 off contract pure edition here and the equivalent Pay As You Go tarrif would be around €20 meaning a further saving of €480 over two years, it makes both Samsung and Apple seem astonishingly high these days.

So Samsung have announced they will reduce prices for the S6 and S6 Edge due to lower than expected sales. When will they learn?????

Samsung...........the Iphone 6 plus 16gb is USD 970. Therefore your upcoming S6 Edge Plus 128gb needs to come in around USD 900.

iPhone 6 plus 16gb is $970 ??? It is $749 on Apple's USA store site. 128gb is $949
iPhone 6 16gb is $649 not $840 as above.

I have no idea why those prices above are so wrong.

Here in the NYC, I buy all of my phones off-contract so they all are expensive. I tend to buy the most gb the phone offers. I'm less sensitive to the price and more sensitive to how the phone functions.

Sorry OP probably posted Canadian Dollar prices. Anyway my point is that the absolute top end Samsung phone should be priced lower than the base iPhone.

However this isnt going to happen as Samsung think they are up there with their brand despite their history. Consequently, Samsungs profits will just continue to decline especially with even more competition from the cheaper Moto/Nexus/oneplustwo phones dues out soon.

Oh I agree. If anything it shows that despite the S6/S6 Edge Samsung saw a dip in profits more than the S5 release (despite a quantum leap in quality between s5 & S6) The price increase of the S6/edge was misguided and if they do not reduce price to bring the Note 5 and S6 Edge plus come in cheaper - they would be in further trouble.

Apples pricing model works for Apple, but doesn't necessarily translate to android. If I want an iOS device I have only one OEM to go to. If I want a device with Android there is so much choice and competition that following Apples pricing model just can't work as there isn't that type of brand loyalty.

It's not about the price. $100 is nothing when we talk about $1k phones.
Samsung really messed up the Galaxy line this year. No SD Card, no removable battery, crap battery life, glass back (we know how fragile the iphone 4 was). They basically made an iphone with android and nobody wants that.

I hope the Note5 will be good and won't lack features Note4 already has.

Based on recent news articles, Samsung is cutting the price of the Galaxy phones because of lack luster sales. So I think the price comparison is going show an even larger difference.

Pricing is a big issue with any product in any industry. With so many factors at play, it's a tough game.

Apple has been the master at charging the highest possible price, justifying it with claims of superior design, functionality, and high quality components. I give them a lot of credit for how they manage their image, how they maintain huge profit margins compared to the competition, and still sell great quantities.

Only over the last few years has their been a very slight softening of Apple's rigid hard line stance on prices. We see it in sales by companies like Best Buy.

Years prior to that arrangement and going back to the pre iOS days, Apple had a nice compliment of Authorized Third Party Resellers. Shops that sold Apple Computers and Accessories. Now all but gone, they were shops where enthusiasts and others could go to see Apple computers, try them, buy them at full retail and have a relationship with the shop owner or sales people and enjoy the camaraderie.

Now in a very different social environment, adding in the shift in Apple Strategy to their own stores, why they ever setup this rather one-off relationship with Best Buy is something I find odd. After all Best Buy doesn't portray the luxury look and feel that an Apple Store does. I have been in a rather large number of Best Buy stores around the country and each and everyone feels like the cheap, sometimes dirty, Big Box store it is.

But then again why Apple users in forums cling to their obsession of comparing and bashing Samsung at every turn is also something that seems odd. I participate in luxury and exotic car forums where they talk about the product, yet don't get so emotionally wound up that they bash competing cars. When it comes to Apple... the emotional connection with the product and burning desire to defend the company at all costs is unique and just a bit bizarre.

Not sure what you are saying. You can buy a half a million dollar Ferrari in a dirty garage and the car will feel cheap according to the vein of your post? And I've participated in a number of luxury car forums and there is a lot of passionate talk.
The "bashing", as you put it, seems to go both ways. And some of what Samsung did, with the s6, maybe is deserved of the criticism as it seems they took away features that prior phones had.

It's strange that you don't understand why someone would want to discuss their mobile purchase and you think it comes across as defending the company???

This is exactly the type of post that is nonsense.

I think the high unlocked price of an iPhone will ultimately turn me away from iOS. I'm looking to go uncarrier and compared to the phones (OnePlus / Moto) released this week, the iPhone is a few hundred $ more. We'll see what happens, but the iPhone 6s+ may be my last iPhone.

As for Samsung, I agree with what Alex(a?) said. I still think they're trying to do too much especially with the edge series. Just release two phones: S / Note in Spring / Fall. They either should have priced it more competitively or kept the removable battery/SD card slot.

samsung is learning that price matters if you aren't apple

the only reason iphone commands its price is the fact you cant get iOS anywhere else.
It's been interesting seeing all of the best buy (staples and others) good sales on ipads, even the current gen ipad air2. These sales have carried over to the Mac line too, where you can save hundreds buying from BB.

Funny how there is basically never a deal on off contract iphones though. Cant say I've ever seen one even on phones like the 5C. Maybe save a hundred bucks from an new in box ebay seller.

At this point I cant justify $750 for 2nd tier storage (won't buy 16gb anymore) nonplus iphone. So give me a sale or give me a nexus

at least I am american though, apple kills internationals with the exchange rate

Simply refrain from guessing, assuming, or taking things too seriously. It's easy.

A quick look here in the UK a 64GB Galaxy S6 is £739.99 and a 64GB iPhone 6 Plus is £699.99. You can probably get good deals on the Samsung if you shop around.

I don't laugh at pricing myself. If I think something is too much I buy something else as long as it satisfies the same. I have no problem whatsoever with Apples pricing of the iPhone and am happy to own it. I also don't get offended by others who have chosen different handsets like many seem to on the Internet.

If the price is good for you, get the phone you like.

Quite an ironic little paragraph when you consider this thread OP emulates exactly what you are saying, but against the Apple brand. There are way more emotionally charged threads on this forum angry at Apple for selling so many phones or angry that people enjoy a phone with less features but being more expensive. The section dedicated to the iPhone can be a lot more boring in that regard. I think there has been a shift in passion in recent years.

UK Prices, according to the official stores.

iPhone 6:
16GB £539
64GB £619
128GB £699

iPhone 6 Plus:
16GB £619
64GB £699
128GB £789

Galaxy S6:
32GB £559
64GB £639
128GB £719

Galaxy S6 Edge:
32GB £669
64GB £749
128GB £829

Weird prices. All four phones are soon to have a price drop, so we may be seeing different prices in a couple of months. I'm hoping to get the Galaxy S6 or the iPhone 6 Plus, so these prices need to be considered.
