I have been more absent on these forums than usual. That is because this year started off with a wild ride. I was asked to do a solo show for January and that led to me jumping in the deep end and opening my own gallery.

This Saturday I will be opening the gallery in downtown Las Vegas. If you had told me that back in December I would have said you were crazy. It is just a small place but it is all mine. :)

Life can be crazy sometimes. ;)

I just wanted to share as I still can't believe it. :D

This forum has been a huge part of my growth as a photographer.

Congratulations. I hope the gallery proves to be a huge success. Good luck.

Thank you.

It is really a bit frightening but exhilarating as well. :)

The rent is cheap enough that I'm not pressured to sell anything to keep it going but just being there puts on pressure to sell. (If that makes any sense.) I look at this as taking the next step in my evolution. I don't know what to expect but I'm glad I jumped in even if I have no clue what I am doing. :D

Congrats on the gallery. I am a member of a gallery in Downtown Raleigh and I have had great luck with it and sold quite a few pieces. I will have to come visit when I am in Vegas in August for Photoshop world.

Congratulations Jeff this is very cool. I love to hear about people living the dream. And what a great spot you've got…IMO it's the best part of Vegas.

Hope you offer discounts to the "regulars" around here.

Best wishes for success.

How was the grand opening? Busy I hope?

Congrats!! What are the hours of the gallery? I tried to stop by yesterday, but was too busy at work. I'm only a couple blocks over on 4th st, and would love to come check it out. :)

Thanks. :)

The location needs a bit more exposure but it certainly has the potential. People don't realize that there is so much more behind The Beat coffee shop. I'm trying to come up with ideas to help the draw.

Wow that's great news. Congratulations! I hope you outsell Peter Lik!

That would be nice. ;)

I can handle the technical side but struggle with the marketing side. He obviously has the marketing angle down.

I jumped into this whole endeavor just to see where it leads. I don't have high expectations so any success will be a major high. I do want to sell in the big boy galleries some day so this a push in that direction. For now it is entirely funded by my day job.

I did sell two pieces Saturday and have had inquiries on some others. That right there made it all worth it.

It was amazing. It was a bit surreal and I was in a daze all evening. There were half a dozen galleries open as they are trying to establish "Second Saturday" on Fremont Street. I was amazed and blessed with the support people showed me.

I will be working out the hours. Since I have to sit in a box by day it will initially be evenings and weekends. I will be checking out the scene over the next week or two to get a feel of the traffic. I would love to hire somebody to open the gallery on a more regular basis but that will have to wait. I can always open by appointment.

Today everything is torn up as I'm having the front door replaced. I'm removing the lead lined door from the old medical center and replacing it with a security gate so that you can see it at all hours. I will be heading down there to clean up this evening.

For the near future I expect Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to be open 6 pm - 8 pm (possibly later). Second Saturday will be 6 pm - 10 pm. Other weekend hours I will be open for now but I need to set aside some time to get out and shoot. ;)

In case you couldn't tell I'm in way over my head. I'm going day by day at the moment. I put all my effort into the opening and played many roles (carpenter, seamstress, painter, flooring installer, laborer and ceiling installer). I am really happy with the way it all came out now to get down to business. :D

Very cool Jeff...just goes to show the amount of talent on these forums. I love being around all of you and your work!

Honestly I think a large part of where I am today is thanks to the community on these forums. I've taken inspiration and critiques from countless posts.

Thanks again everybody. This has been a wild ride and it can only get crazier from here. :)

I took a phone pano last night before I took down the sold pieces and tore everything up for today's construction:

And Mom sent a bottle of Dom for the opening!

Looks great! Well done for trying something outside your comfort zone. I really hope that this works out. And early sales is a good start!

In a coffee shop.
Fantastic achievement and very well done. Warmest congratulations, and it is wonderful to see someone able to realise their dreams, especially in a field that can be so rewarding creatively.

In any case, I really hope that it works out completely for you and; however, it seems to be something that you will be able to find fulfilment from both personally and professionally.

And I espy some lovely pictures in the background, too…….
