Game through windows (unfortunately)

Ive used windows since i was about 11, and have got bored of emptying my bank account whenever an update is released and just get fed up with it. But i also play a lot of games. My question is:

Will windows only games, like valve's half-life 2 work properly and smoothly if i install windows on the iMac??

Also if i have a 'not so legal' copy of windows, will that work as well?

What iMac is it and the spec? It is possible to use illegal versions on a mac although it is against Microsoft's EULA.

2.4ghz with 4gb ram and the new graphics cards (whenever they come out). cpu might be quicker if they also increase that in the revision. i know that with this spec a windows pc would play the games with no problem, i was just wondering if when you boot xp instead of os x it runs any slower....

No it will run just like a PC. Apple markets BootCamp as running windows "natively" on your mac which means full speed as on a pc.

Have installed XP and Vista on it through Boot Camp. When you open Boot Camp in the applications> utilities folder it will guide you through creating a partition. It will then ask you to put your windows cd/dvd in and then all you do is click begin process, it restarts and the windows setup will appear. When you get to the screen where you select what disk you want to install windows on, the partition you created will be named "BOOTCAMP" which makes it easier to figure out incase you destroyed another disk. After its installed it will boot into windows, you then insert your system disk and it will install windows drivers. Every time your iMac boots up you can hold in the options key (ALT) and select what partition you want to boot into. You can set a default by going to Boot Camp in Mac or by right clicking the boot camp assistant in your windows taskbar. Feel free to ask any more questions.

thanks for the help..... a lot more useful than the people in the apple store (at least the ones in regent street) they know a lot except for anything to do with boot camp.

I play games on my mac running a copy of xp. So long as you don't update windows it works perfectly.
The most recent game I've played is Oblivion which works just as good as it does on my 360 so no problems as far as performance goes.

Your Mac is just a PC with a couple of different custom chips and in a snazzy case.

It will run Windows and games no differently from a Dell with the same specs.
