Hey,
I recently put a fresh copy of Windows XP SP 2 on my iMac.
for some strange reason, every time i play a game, i get a blue screen with a bunch of code and then it restarts the computer.

This is the second time ive loaded on Windows XP SP2, and the first time games ran perfectly.

Anyone know what this is caused by, my only thot is it may be because i removed the old Windows partion and something messed up.

Why its crashing

I am a long time windows user who has just ordered his first MacBook (the damn thing better wow me...I wasn't dissatisfied with windows and the shipping and manufacturing times are a joke).

It's sound card drivers I'll bet you. Microsoft leaves drivers up to third parties (that's how it's able to have such great hardware compatibility). Third parties cut costs on driver development. Most Windows crashes (almost all) are caused by poorly functioning 3rd party hardware, software or drivers. Almost always sound card drivers. My guess is that the sound card drivers Apple put in boot camp are conflicting with the game. If you have a copy of Windows Vista you might install that instead of XP, since audio is removed from the kernel in Vista. It may just be the game though, and you may need to download a patch, or lobby the developer to create one.

What does the iMac do about a sound card?

Sound Card

Im not sure exactly what your question is about the sound card?
But if this helps...

Audio (Built in)
Available Devices:
Line Out:
Connection: 1/8 inch Jack
Microphone:
Connection: Internal
Speaker:
Connection: Internal
Line In:
Connection: 1/8 inch Jack
S/P-DIF Out:
Connection: Optical

All games I have crash, Knights of the Old Repulic, Half-Life 2, The Movies.
They all install but about 5-10 min. in it gives me a blue screen w/while coding and then restarts.

That's a kernel crash. What does the white text say? I know it resets very fast, but try to read it.

My guess is it's a buggy sound card driver, since it happens with multiple games. Maybe videocard. Try reinstalling the sound drivers. I think they come with bootcamp.

It's Alive!!

And there you have it.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the Apple drivers that boot camp gives you.
Everything work perfectly!

Thanks!

Hi There..

Im new on this forum, and also new on IntelMacs
But i have allmost the same problem with games in Windows.
They install right, but when i try to open them, they all crash..
My games are:
Need for speed - most wanted
Flatout 2
Battlefield 2

After reading in here it seems like its the audiocard that makes the trouble.
So i looked arround in setup for soundcard, and found out that it could´nt use DirectSound
Ive tried to run bootcamp again, but it still wont work!!

Any ideas?

I'm not sure if you guys have seen it, but often when the system recovers from a crash (blue screen), a message box will pop up telling you the system has recovered from a serious error. It will then ask if you want to submit the information to Microsoft.

If you do submit the information, I've found that in some cases it will pop up another message box that contains a link - the link will usually tell you what the general problem was (specific device or driver). It isn't always useful, but a few times I've updated the driver it mentioned and been successful.

Just a thought.

It could be very specific to the hardware you are running. In my case (MBP 15"), I have had zero issues with games on Boot Camp that I can't trace down to a specific vendor or game (the PoP series gives me some odd timing issues, both Sands of Time and Warrior Within). Battlefront II, Armada II, EvE and F.E.A.R all ran quite nicely for me. GalCiv II was quite smooth too.

Ok.. i found out that it wasn´t the sounddriver that gives me the trouble.
I tried to play "Rise Of Nations" and "Age Of Empire" and it runs smooth..
But the two games are not 3D action games so the trouble must be ind the graphic driver..or??

By the way, i ran 3DMark 06 and it runs smooth, actually it scores higher than my PC.
But i can´t figure out why a test program can run 3D tests fine, but not 3D games???

Anybody in here that runs 3D action games on iMacs??

Action Games on iMac

I run action game son my intel iMac.
As i posted before, I had it working...
Really what happened was that I installed the mac drivers again, and now it just takes longer to crash. Before it was about 5-10 minutes into games play, now its 20-30 min.

Driving me crazy....I just want to play games!!:(
