My grandma is, well, old. Now that she can’t go to the casino (which was bad) due to COVID, she’s taken up mindless games like Candy Crush, online slot machines, etc. None of it is actual gambling, but IAP gets it close.

I’d love to find her an alternative that’s either pay-once or subscription based. I looked at the Apple Arcade offerings, and to be frank the games are too good—too complicated. She just wants to sit and tap on bright colors, and have them explode like she won a prize.

Is there a good, non-scummy option for these kinds of mindless games? Again, happy to pay, but don’t want her spending hundreds of dollars a month on IAPs.

Maybe try thatgamecompany's free Sky: Children of the Light. It's a gentle game and quite beautiful as are all of TGC's games. It has some IAP but completely easy to play without buying stuff. I'd also recommend some of the other Annapurna Interactive published games like Florence and Gorogoa. Maybe she'd enjoy Gris as well.

Of course there's TGC's perennial Journey and Flower also available on iOS/iPadOS. Neither of these have IAP.

Maybe there are some options in this premium (pay once, no ads) casino games list I created.
I cannot guarantee all apps still work since some haven't been updated in a while. The Apple one is btw free and without ads 'Texas Hold'em but it's no slots though as she wants but it does give you the casino vibe.
