Hiya

I'm gonna be taking delivery of the new middle-range MacBook (hopefully!) very soon - I want to canvass thoughts on what are good games to play on the machine in OS X? I assume The Sims will work (I read the thread about the Sims 2 not working so well). I'm basically a bit new to gaming so if you know any good games which would work happily with the MacBook's intergrated graphics please post!

Thanks!

If you want to play a Sims game then Sims Life Stories might be worth a look – it's similar to Sims 2 but has been designed to play well on laptops. It doesn't quite have all the bells and whistles of its bigger cousin but I believe it runs better on the MacBook than Sims 2.

The only game that I've played regularly on my MacBook is Football Manager which works beautifully, but might not be your thing if you're not keen on football.

halo works on the macbook, does it look good or nay.when i get my macbook i was just thinkn of playn the classics quake 2 or hexen 2 lol at least they would run very smooth,i think anyway

Halo works on my macbook. I've got a 2ghz intel core duo with a gig of ram, and I can make it 1024x768 with shaders without any real problems... it does lag up if I've got a ton of enemies in the same area.

ill have to look into that game once i get my CORE 2 DUO macbook lol.and i wonnna find quake 2 and hexen 2 aswell.are there any racing games that will run smooth you think

I play Civ IV regularly on my Macbook. It is a 2ghz core 2 duo and I upgraded the RAM to 3 gig by purchasing said upgrade from OWC...and so far it works...:D

i thought the macbooks could only handle up to 2gb worth of ram?

i would also like to know if anyone has tried Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, NWN under Rosetta?

Please let us know if the games you've tried are the Mac OS version or Windows under Bootcamp.

I'd rather not have that POS operating system on my computer.

Nope, its the standard Black MacBook, and Apple says that only two gig of RAM works, but OWC said otherwise, I had a store credit for about equal amount, and so I decided to try it out, and I have had it in for two months and everything is working great. It shows up in the system profiler, etc. I have no idea if its using anymore than 2 gig, but when I had to go see a genius about a cracked case the other day, the genius saw that I had it and said that is an unsupported memory amount, but that it works fine....I am proof of that so far... :apple:

has anyone tried SimCity 4 on their Macbook?

Yup I have, it runs ok but then as your city gets bigger it gets slower and slower. To be fair thought that game is a system hog anyway and its still PPC as far as I know. From what I've heard the Rush Hour UB doesn't seem to do much for it either.

All current StarCraft and WarCraft games are really good and should work quite well.

Check your Activity Monitor and look under 'System Memory'.

Yup, it shows up and will use it....hehe...that is awesome...I kind of thought I was carrying around a useless portion of memory...:D

flight sims

Has anyone tried installing Fs2004 on a macbook just curious I guess you would need to install Xp first. that would be nice if it did work.:)

question : how to install games on mac os x?

Since I am completely new in the Mac World, i need some basic, basic help (don't laugh ;p).
What kind of games can I play on Mac OS X?
I have games that work regularly on Win - Can i play them on Mac, and if I can, how to install them?

btw. what is UB? ;p

I ride MacBook Pro 2.13 1GB x1600 128MB

i play Lego Star Wars 2... and it's coolio.

Really? I downloaded the demo and I thought it was framey enough on my mb. Was it on default settings or what?

Trotilac, you'd be best off starting another thread either in the games or mac basics and help forum but the good folks at MR will definitely give you some sound advice. Welcome to Mac!
