Games tested on new iMac

lo folks,

There seems to be a lot of upset regarding the new graphics cards for the imacs, understandability. Has anyone got any real world testings?? I've ordered myself the 2.8 extreme, it will mainly be used for work, but I'd like the odd bash at Half Life 2 and Counter Strike Source.

If someone has an Imac with a 2600 pro, could they please test Source under windows and give us some feedback.

Other than that, does anyone else know of games tested under windows etc??

To add to your question, i'd also like to know how the imac performs when in Bootcamp or some other parallel program when using a 3D Rendering program. I'm sure these programs are as heavy on the video card as video games. I will start using 3D rendering programs next year for University and need to know if the iMac will be able to handle it under Bootcamp.

Well, considering that HL2 ran very well on my old P4 2.8GHz with Radeon 9200, I have no doubt that it will run well on the new iMac as well. I don't think it will have any problems running HL2: Lost Coast either but you'll probably have to cut back a bit on the resolution and AA.

3D rendering relies on your CPU. The GPU is used when modelling though. But it should be enough for that really.

3D design/animation/rendering is one of the more intensive tasks your computer will get. yes, rendering is offloaded to the processors so you are fine there. as for the app itself, the vid card and system RAM play a huge part. i'm pretty sure whatever app you use it will be workable. it will not fly like a mac pro with the quadro card would. you just can't get "workstation" quality graphics on a "gaming" card. but it should be plenty usable for a student.
(i use the word "gaming" in quotes because there are generally two types of video cards - workstation (quadro/fireGL) and gaming.)

On the comp in my sig, I can run Company of heroes ,bf2/2142, call of duty 2, and other rts/fps games all at medium/high settings with AA enabled. That gets about 40 fps which is fine for me. With AA off its mid 50's.
