I know that WoW and Warcraft 3 works out the box on both platforms. and thats good.

the problem is that if I want to buy some game and want to find out if I want to run it in either boot camp or natively in OSX, I will have to buy the game twice:(

thats really... that really sucks.

does anyone know any other games that work on both systems out of the box?

Guitar Hero III

All of the "You don't know Jack".

Just check the box, they will either say MAC/PC CD or DVD, have both the Windows Flag and the Mac Face, or say for Mac and Windows.

Those "duel platform" games simply have 2 separate installers... usually multiple images mounted from a single DVD. In general it's rare for companies to sell those, although it would be cheaper for them to manufacture them that way... so as advised, check the box.

I am pretty sure Empire at War is a duel DVD installer.

If I would buy, something like Battlefield 2142, or Jedi Outcast for Mac, and then play it online, would I be able to play with PC gamers and/or use mods?

Very few games are dual compatible.
Starcraft
Diablo
Warcraft series
You dont iknow jack
Myst series
Guitar Hero 3

A game I freaking loved for the PC, was Jedi Academy. It was amazing in the online mode. Had the most kick as lightsaber fighting ever. I can see that its still played by many, and the mac version by Aspyr seems to be univeral(taking advantage of Intel chipsets?).

I would just feel strange buying it for Mac. It's quite expenssive in the apple store. And what if the game is not ported very good? Then I cant boot camp it.

But to be fair, I cant even find the PC version in the shops.:/ JKA came out around KOTOR... which is also an awesome game, but not online unfortunately.

Maybe its because im so used to PC games, but I think I would just feel wierd buying Mac games. PC Games in mac version. But maybe it would be even more "strange" to play "games for windows" which is labeled with big letters on most game boxes these days(world in conflict, crysis, hellgate etc...) on a mac.
Who cares right? I know its a petty thing to ponder about but I just cant stop thinking about it. I dont even got a mac yet.

I wonder about how many people who are out there, are having the same thoughts/concerns/questions about gaming and mac.

Its very cool of blizzard to have osx support for so many of their products. I really feel that they are a company worthy of their acclaim. lets just hope that activision wont screw it up.
