So im going to be getting my iMac soon, upgrading from a macbook.

Am going to be getting into gaming on mac so was wondering if the 2.66 24" iMac will be powerful enough.
Will be games like call of duty 4 and those sorts of games.

Don't know much about graphics so not really sure if it's enough. Also, are the new imacs hd, as they are not hd graphic cards??
sorry if its a stupid question!

Also on a totaly differnt note, as im in no rush for getting this (although would like it now) do you think it's worth waiting till snow leopard is released to get more for my money (eg saving me having to buy it later)
cheers

You are better off getting the 2008 20" or 24" refurb if you want to game, the 9400m is a piece of crap and should be reserved for low end computers that don't play games.

The 2008 models are cheaper and better.

However if you want to seriously game you should be getting a PC or 360/PS3

The 24" iMac is 1920x1200 which exceeds HDTV highest resolution.

If you're interested in gaming, I'd suggest the GT130 option, or the ATi 4850 if you are not in a hurry to buy (i.e. save your money!)

I have the worst iMac from last year (20", 2.4 ghz, 1 gig ram etc), and it can play absolutely every game. From Crysis to Company of Heroes to Left 4 Dead to Call of Duty 5. Now I just play Blizzard games though, and they run awesomely (as they should).

So - a question for everyone - how much better for gaming would the current cheapest iMac be compared to the one mentioned above by Sambo110?

Check out the Macbook area for gaming info on the 9400M. There are a lot of folks using it. I'm sure games will run. They just can't have all the setting beyond low-med, no high or ultra, especially on games that really tax the GPU.

Actually the prior iMac with ATI2600 is a better gaming system than any system containing the 9400M and there are great deals on those systems now.

Cheers,

Yes - go with discreet only graphics when gaming...

i think im going to try and get the old low end 24" and put another 2gb ram in instead of the new low end 24"
Better graphics and it 2.8 instead of 2.66
not worried about a smaller hardrive as have large external.
and its cheaper, however theres no refurbed ones in uk store now so where can i get one? o just wait till refurbed ones are avaliable?

Mine played all those games very poorly, with all the setting on very low. Do you really want to play a nice game with every setting on low?
