Ok, just as a fair warning, this is my first mac so yes, i'm a mac noob (forgive me), and i'm not entirely sure how things work in the mac world as far as gaming goes.
So yea, its my first mac, and i bought the lowest end pro (yea the new ones). I didnt buy it with the intention of it being a great gaming machine, nor did i buy it strickly for gaming. Having said that, i ended up installing the Doom 3 demo just to see how the game looks and runs on my new MBP. Well, on mid level settings/res, the game kinda chugged, and i was slightly dissapointed because i thought it would be at least 25 - 30 fps, but i only really got about 10 - 12. So i lowered the settings and even took off shadows, and it went up a bit but not to my expectations. So since i own the game on PC, i installed boot camp, windows xp, then doom 3, and on the highest possible settings (without any AA though) i got 70 frames per second! I mean wow, i totally didnt expect that after how low the frames were in os x.
Anyways, my question pretty much is, does this game (doom 3) just not port well to os x, or do i need to update my graphics drivers (if they even release updated drivers for mac vid cards)? Can somebody give me a little insight about gaming on mac, doom 3 on mac and what i can do to improve my FPS? I mean, i assume my hardware isnt faulty since i get stellard frames within bootcamp running winXP. Thanks
