Has anyone received the new MBP and/or tried installing and playing PC games yet? Would like to know if new graphics card is the answer to playing the heavy graphic games like halflife etc.. Would be nice to make a real PC gaming machine from it.

I'm wondering the same thing and I have found nothing.... I looked online and everything I see is geekbench and Xbench but no games like TF2 or COD4. Also, if someone does do it can you give some frame rates and no 6X better or anything.

Thanks,
ChrisN

I would like to know this to. I have a core duo MacBook Pro with an ATI x1600 card and while it handles games well, I'd like something with a little more zing. Also, I read something about the graphics cards being next generation or something. Does that mean I can run a game with next generation graphics on, like Tomb Raider: Legends? I don't really care about that though, but I would like to run noticeably higher quality graphics.

Half Life (2) is relatively old and should play fine at max settings on the new MBP. You won't be playing Crysis at max settings but the MBP is a perfectly capable gaming laptop.

Well the other posts at the moment are all for mac OSX games. We will have to wait to see when someone actually installs m$oft on it and get a real response. I had to order my MBP because I maxed it out. I really want to give this PC gaming thing a go but I dont want to have to purchase XP, etc. just for a test when someone else already has been doing it previously. So, if you're out there and have this new MBP and installed PC games... PLEASE let me/us know. I'd love to truly have the best of both worlds!

same here, i've been searching for youtube videos or reviews for games like crysis, cod,... but haven't found anything yet :(
hopefully we'll see tons of good reviews soon, i'm looking forward to see Far Cry 2 and GTAIV

The 9600m GT GPU is an improvement over the 8600m GT GPU.

But how much of an improvement? Not enough.

But it's still an improvement. And you can overclock 9600m GT more than 8600m GT. I can run Crysis at 1440x900, med-low (mostly low) settings and get 30+ FPS. That's with the 8600m GT overclocked. If I had 9600m GT, I am very certain I would be able to overclock it and run Crysis at 35-40+ FPS with those same settings, or have it run 1440x900 all med settings at 30+ FPS.

Of course, the newer MBP is better. But in MY opinion, well... I'm not exactly beating myself up for not waiting. If I could do an even swap though, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I can predict that FC2 will play as smooth as Crysis: Warhead. Should be a small (but MAYBE noticeable) improvement on the newer MBP.
