Hello Macrumorians!

Wanted to run an idea by eveybody:

I am thinking of installing a Windows 7 via parallels on my MBP. I want to avoid Bootcamp for a number of reasons.

How would some casual RTS gaming via this setup? I'm thinking Starcraft I+II, Red Alert 3, C&C: Generals.... As you can see the latest in the list are SC2 and RA3. Would I be sacrificing a whole lot in gaming performance?

BTW, my MBP is spec'd as follows:

uMBP 15" i7
High Res Screen
8 GB RAM
120 GB OWC SSD
500 GB 5400 Hard Drive via MCE Optibay

(I'm thinking of allocating 4GB RAM to Parallels)

Anybody have experience with this?
Any general comments?
Would I be better off with Fusion? WinXP?

Generally, virtualization is horrible for gaming. Why don't you get Mac versions of SC2 and RA3?

I did consider that.... SC2 was dinitely on my wish list. But I couldn't find RA3 on Amazon, Microcenter, eBay, Apple or anywhere else.

I was going to put Windows on Parallels for doing "work stuff" anyway, so I thought why not!

On that note: Is RA3 for Mac available anywhere that you know of??

if you want to play Windows games on OSX... you need to look for a Wine based solution, not a Virtual Machine.

Playing games in Parallels mostly only works for older types of games, those that are quite a few years old. I wouldn't use it for the games you mentioned.
