Hi all,

I'm wanting to develop some games for iOS but I'm a little short of cash at the moment and was thinking of possibly getting a iPod touch rather than splashing out on the iPhone 4, has anyone tried developing for the touch? does the lack of RAM make it more difficult? Would it better to bite the bullet and just spend the extra on the iPhone?

Comments / thoughts / suggestions very much welcome!

The ram is not the limitation on the iPod Touch 4G, the GPU is. It has the same GPU as the 3Gs, but has to drive many more pixels. The iPhone 4 also has the same GPU.

Most if not all games run fine on the touch, the ram limitation only comes if you leave a lot of stuff open.

It only has 256 RAM, the iPhone 4 has 512.

I notice it not only in some games, but in day to day applications, the iPhone 4 is tons faster even though they both run the A4. Both jailbroken.

Bite the bullet and buy 4S. I have had and used for games both the iPod Touch and the iPhone 4 (since that was your question) and the performance difference is not significant in my view. But the performance upgrade on the 4S is quite significant. But I am not an avid gamer so what do I know
