Honestly, gaming on OS X is not good. Using Windows in bootcamp gives way better performance.
I know. But I'm comparing the gaming performance to Mavericks, not Windows. I have few games on my Mac which I play occasionally. Now since using Yosemite betas those games has turned unplayable because of extremely low frame rates. Under Mavericks I was getting stable 60fps and no hiccups.
Next time try to come up with something useful.
What else did you expect? You're trying to run games on a beta OS, and then complain it's not working correctly. It's not a finished product.
I gave you the option to use Windows as it provides much better performance than even Mavericks. But if you absolutely hate Windows just keep Mavericks around for gaming on a separate partition, for example.
I asked if anyone is having similar experience or am I the only one. I wanted to know if it's common issue or not. So I could possibly do something to solve it. But since I can't get proper replies I guess I just leave it to it.
I asked for your experiences. Not your advices to go to install bootcamp. I know exactly that Windows offers better gaming performance over OS X. And I know also that on Mavericks my games run fine. What I don't know is that if poor gaming performance is common issue with Yosemite betas or not.
Now answer my actual question.
The thing is.. very few people game on OS X so it'll be difficult to get an answer here.
Well, yeah. Seems like it.
Would be nice to know anyways if other people who possibly play every now and then on OS X if they have similar experiences. I don't play a lot so this doesn't ruin my user experience. After all I've been very happy with Yosemite betas. But these times when I'd like to game a bit I get frustrated because I get extremely low frame rates and stuttering on Yosemite.
Now answer my actual question.
Thanks, this was the kind of reply I was looking for. So bad gaming performance on Yosemite isn't common issue.Yosemite has improved GPU performance on 650m by around 10% compared to Mavericks. If you are not having the same result, then something went wrong with your installation.

Well, its still bad 10% increase over 25 fps is still only 27 fps

Hello Skylitfly.
I tried Yosemite, upgrade, and clean install. No matter what i tried it is unusable for games. And for the people that recommend bootcamp in order to play games. Why would Apple sell for instance a iMac with a 4gb nvidia card capable to play most games out there? Just for fun? ripping people off? My 27" iMac has a i7 cpu, 2GB AMD card 6970 250 SSD which is more than enough to play games within reason. A friend of mine has a new i7, 4gb nvidia card 500gb SSD 27" iMac and we both play the same games. We both did a clean install on Yosemite 2-3 weeks ago, we first tried upgrading. Both our machines sucks playing games. Sluggish and the fps drop is horrible even on simple games. Both where running Mavericks before and we both play Steam games and UrbanTerror which is not heavy games to play. The performance in Mavericks is excellent on theese games. For your information UT can be played with a simple Intel card.
So we went back to Mavericks and are enjoying our gaming sessions again Also our music and photo apps that didn't work under Yosemite. Including my wireless printer. Yosemite is useless for gaming. Even with a top spec iMac, MBP.
My advice to you is stay away from Yosemite if you want to play games. You should stay away all together. Thats it. You don't need bootcamp for many games on macs. Some you do need bootcamp for but that is not your question
I'm not having any issues with games on Yos vs Mav.
I'm playing Diablo III still maxed out on settings/res in the same framerate range as Maverick. Same with Starcraft II.
I don't know what your hardware config is, or the driver versions you're using, but F1 2013 plays the same on Yosemite as it did/does on Maverick.
Mine is:
i7 3.4GHz
16GB RAM
2GB GTX 680MX
1TB Fusion Drive
I'm running 10.10.2. The game running at 4xaa @2560x1440.
Well... Thats weird. I got significant drop in gaming performance after installing Yosemite. F1 2013 was smooth in Mavericks but in Yosemite it turned unplayable.
I have no idea why. I did clean install twice. I tried reseting PRAM and SMC. I did everything I could. No improvements.
My configuration is:
i7 2.4GHz
8GB RAM
GT 650M 1GB
256GB SSD
It's 15" rMBP (Early 2013) base model.
System Preferences > Cuda and see if you have the updated version, and see what GPU driver version it shows.
