Gaming with Boot Camp

How well can a MacBook Pro running Windows XP handle games. Specifically, I will be running Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds as well as Command and Conquer - Red Strike.

I boot XP on an iMac, and have no problems with games. I've even played Galatic Battlegrounds with it and there's no problems. You should'nt have anything to worry about

Has anyone with a 20" iMac been able to play any games? I read that there are still some issues with Boot Camp and the 20" iMac. I've got a copy of XP and would like to use boot camp to play some older PC games - I guess in theory this should work, eh?

On my 20" iMac, I have played some games, albiet slow. Lower resolution and effects settings work OK, but what I would call real gaming quality...but that is not what an iMac does best.

On my Pro, under XP, it just rocks nicely : been playing COD2, GRAW, and UT2004 being the ole FPS gamer I am ---- but I also cheated a little and replaced the 7300 card with a 7800 card which runs under Windows, while the other is used for OS-X.

i ve installed windows xp on my mbp (x1600 128mb)
and use ms flight simulator
it runs sweet!

My 20" iMac is a very nice gaming machine. I only wish I had gotten the 256MB video card.

i game on my macbook Pro 15.4" x1600 (256) and it runs most things very well. i havent had any problems with boot camp (apart from it being windows) it runs just fine.

I've ran Oblivion, Prey, CS Source and other recent games and they all do quite decently. But that's because I've had my GPU overclock to 450/450. It gives a huge boost in performance and i've NOT noticed any heat problems or crashing. But you do need your power adapter plugged it before you run AtiTool. Make sure to use AtiTool .25 Beta14.

W/o oc, the performance is barely manageable imo. AtiTool is very good at managing your GPU and scanning artifacts so you know where the MBP's GPU limit is. Gl.

Under Boot Camp, Macs run games just as well as PCs do. Still, the MacBook isn't a particularly good gaming computer because the GPU is not very powerful. It will run most games, but not with high settings.

yea i bot bootcamp going on my MBP
played tombraider legends and the new ghost recon game on it
runs decent especially considering how graphics heavy these games are

runs the game smoother than my Dell 3.6ghz with a 6800 GT =)

My imac runs all the latest games great, with settings usually on high.

at 1280x720 or 1400x900

halflife 2 everything high except AA off - over 60fps
Prey - everything high except AA off- over 45fps
oblivion - everything high except AA off, draw distance about 50% - the game is smoother than my xbox 360

I assume it's because your imac is under-rammed. 512 mb, as opposed to 512k as in your sig is tooooooooo little to play these new games. maxed out to 2gb and gaming is not a problem at all.

I get better peformance from my imac 20" 2ghz, 2gb ram, 256mb X1600 than I did from my last gaming rig. A pentium 4, 3ghz, 1gb, 256 X800XT

Yes, you are right -- but now that I have the Pro, the iMac has been relegated to non-intense graphic duty --- and once I get the Pro up to 2GB, it will be even better than it already is, especially running a PC 7800 card as it is now under XP. Running real nice.

If i can run BF2 on pretty much all high settings with 2x AA, then you will def. be able to run your games very well. BF2 is a very graphics-intensive game.

(MBP 2gb ram, 256 mb x1600, 2.16 ghz)
