Gaming with Windows safe?

I'm considering installing Windows on my MacBook Pro just for the purpose of running windows games. My question is, is it safe to do this so that it won't overheat my computer to the point that it kills components in my laptop?

I have the early 2008 MBP with an upgraded 7200 RPM hard drive I did myself. I just don't know if the heat from the harddrive and GPU will eventually kill the GPU (I know that the GPU in the early 2008 MBP's have had problems)

Got the same laptop as you (still have original 5400 drive in it though) and I've been gaming on it (in Vista64/Win7 64) since I got it back in Feb. of last year. Yes, it's 100% safe. I mean the fans churn up to their highest, and it's a little unsettling at first, but you quickly realize it's fine. I would consider getting a cooling pad for it though (glass tables work really well too for some reason).

No notebook should overheat while under stress, unless you do something like block up the vents. If it does overheat then it's a manufacturing fault. All notebooks are designed such that it has sufficient cooling to cool down the hardware inside.

But just to assure you, I play games constantly on my Penryn Macbook Pro, CPU's stressed to 100%, GPU is overclocked by 30 - 40%, and 11 months later it's still running great. It has never overheated before even when using it on my lap while gaming.

I don't understand how a computer would overheat if you installed Windows on it? If you mean it's going to overheat while playing games, then Apple is the one who should be blamed for making a bad product. From my experience with the Unibody Macbook, they seem to have a pretty decent cooling system. I play L4D on it sometimes with no problems. The fan control is not related to what OS you use. It's the BIOS that controls the fans.

You will be fine, as stated above the worst that is going to happened is its going to shut down. You'll be fine

I guess I wasn't sure if the fans would be able to read and adjust to heat the same way it does in OSX. I guess it's a dumb question but better safe than sorry. I have to keep this notebook alive because its my only means of video editing at work.

As I said, the fan behavior is controlled by the BIOS. The OS doesn't make a difference. And, it's not a dumb question, if you didn't ask you wouldn't have known. It would've been dumb if you didn't ask.
