hello, can anyone tell me if the new imac i7 27" is good for gaming ? games like dota2 or wow and go with higher rezolution/stats ?
Im not a windows fan anymore so ive been waiting for this new mac to come and i would like to upgrade my pc but doest it worth the money ?

Will it? I thought a lot of the upper frame rate/highest resolution games take DirectX whatever. I thought about getting and playing Elite Dangerous and there was (is?) a Mac OS version but a lot of features were disabled because of no DirectX support on the Mac. You could boot camp and run Windows but then the mediocre graphics card kicked in.

I don't know how many game developers will use Metal2, or how easy/hard it will be to port the games, but I'm worried that even with increased processor and memory power that the graphic cards available are an improvement but ultimately still just middle of the road. Are there any announced plans by NVidia or by Radeon to put out a high end graphics card? Any word by major publishers about getting back into Mac gaming?

You could buy a GTX 1080 Ti for $700 and it will outperform the iMac Pro in gaming. The iMac pro is using a modern Gpu based on 3 years ago gaming graphics card.

For Dota and WoW, These games will be at the highest settings, No matter what option you pick here.

Wow uses Metal... It will absolutely FLY on that card. It's hardly a demanding game.

The iMac Pro's GPU is based on a revised architecture than isn't released yet. Unless you mean it uses GNC, which isn't new. But no GPU vendor releases a brand new architecture every year.

As for new iMacs, it's all question or resolution. 5K gaming is still out the question. At 1440p, WoW and Dota 2 should run very well.

Thanks for the help, im not much into computers but i have to admit the imac looks good into an office desk
The only games i played in the past was this kind like wow, dota/hon or counter strike.
I didnt upgrade my gaming laptop for 6 years i think or more and i have a toshiba qosmio so i wanted to purchase a mac cause i got used to this operation system then the old windows
I suppose if in the future i would like to try a new game should be ok i think with this imax futures beside the imac pro that i really dont know what it does or the difference between imac and pro 1..

Based on what you have said. I would say you are safe with any of the iMac's for gaming. The iMac Pro is really out of the question at $5k. That thing is a workstation beast i9 over the top machine.

But any of the iMac's will play the games you mentioned just fine. They really will. I have both iMac 27 inch and a custom built PC. I use both for different things. i5 iMac's are great for gaming. Even if you bought the i7 model, It will revert to i5 while gaming. I'm just giving short answers here. No detailed specifics.

Boot Camp works great. But eventually you will want to separate the two and just run Mac OS only. I used Boot Camp for a while then eventually just said screw it. I'm going to build PC.

Sorry but AMD 580 is such a let down, when we could've had Nvidia 1070 (or even 1080 together with improved airflow found in the upcoming iMac Pro). Maybe the next generation of iMac will be more suited for gaming (for those that do some casual gaming, and don't want two machines).

Well it's going to be better than what we had. In terms of raw Terraflops, it's about on par with a 1070 (6.2TF vs. 6.5TF). Mac Open CL games will suffer because Apple's implementation is ancient. Metal games should be quite good. Windows games via Boot Camp will benefit from Direct X and third-parties offer more recent versions of the AMD Crimson Windows driver than what Apple does in Boot Camp which will help a bit with some games.

So I'm guessing you have a vega GPU...do you work for AMD?

P.s. There is more difference between vega and a 580 then a 1080 ti to a 980 ti in terms of architecture

I know the difference. My response was pre-mature before I really looked into the entire iMac Pro. I was only looking at the graphics card before anything else.
