there have been various titles that sounded like they might be really "complete" games, like brothers in arms, terminator, etc, but this looks like it might take the cake and be a seriously good game
i love that it's sandboxed and none of this on rails or tracked ****, like assassin's creed (although that game was pretty enjoyable too)
i think this could be really cool, can't wait to try it out

Gangstar - West Coast Hustle IS OUT !!!

Everyone who has been waiting for this game, it is now out, released a couple hours ago.

My first impressions, there isn't any game like this so far, Car Jack Streets and Payback come close, but this is full 3D. Good open environment, great choice of controls, varying from analogue to digital. Good feature is the way to play your own playlists from within the game, and able to skip tracks whilst still in the car with a simple swipe.

My jaw just dropped from those GFX. That's about par with PSP maybe a little under. Let's see Pre match that =p

I don't understand how this game can be rated 12+ when the new Facebook will be rated 17+ (it has a built-in browser now) ... Apparently Apple thinks running around shooting people in the face and selling heroin is less objectionable than Facebook.

Gangstar: West Coast Hustle Released Today

Wow, I'm surprised that there aren't any threads on this game! Gangstar was released today and it is amazing! The graphics are sharp, vivid, and stunning. Who purchased the game and what do you think about it?:D

The game is "sick"......... I love the GFX and the actual gameplay isn't bad. I really like it.

I actually did start a thread about this game a few days ago. I've been waiting for it to come out and I saw your post and I am downloading it as we speak. Hopefully it turns out to be good!

Along with Doom Res., it has really shown what is capable on the this platform graphically. This is not even using the full potential of the 3GS. The thing is that they could have added talking audio for characters and probably a longer story (haven't played it all the way through) if they were to increase the file size to 1GB. When we start seeing 64GB iPhones and touches we will start to see these kind of games. Myst has already pushed the size to 500mb for a game. I'm sure Rockstar is paying attention to this. I can also see why Sony and Nintendo are at least a little worried.

The only problem I have so far is that the vehicles can be tough to control.

The other games I'm waiting for are Dexter, Madden, Modern Comba and LiveFire.

Devs rate their own apps. I'm sure Apple looks at that to make sure the ratings are "sane." /agree, though.

Have you tried all the different control styles for driving?

Try using the stick control when driving. It's so much easier than the wheel and the accelerometer.

After my first night of playing through the first chapter. I can give a small review. Firstly there is no difficulty settings, whilst it still gives a challenge, some missions are hard like the racing based ones. Open setting for missions, for example you are put into the situation where people burst in front of you whilst you just about get into a stolen car, you can either run them over or get out and shoot them.

Secondly, the draw distance is lacking, but ok to play with. The graphics are good with good attention to detail.

With 5 chapters, I guess with 10 missions each it will keep you busy, ranging from car racing to stalking to plain old shoot them up. A mission typically lasts a couple of minutes depending on how fast you drive there and what you choose to do.

If anyone has questions about the game feel free to ask.

is it fair to say this is the best game of the iphone

better then hero of sparta and assassins creed ?

It looks really good. With Gangstar, Dexter, and Madden coming out it looks like the iPhone is starting to become serious competition to the PSP.

That being said I hope the game has long playability. I wouldn't mind a Myst type file size for longer and deeper gameplay.

No disrespect to the game, but do you even own a PSP? This can never be on the level of Liberty or Vice City Stories for the PSP. You optimism is commendable, but unrealistic to the extreme.

I think you're missing the point. Exactly how many hardcore handheld gamers are there? Answer: Very little and that is why the DS is destroying the PSP in sales and Microsoft is not even bothering to release an XBOX portable. Instead they are trying to copy Apple and so is Sony.

They don't have to have cutting edge graphics but have games that are fun and not look like they were from the Original Nintendo. BTW my friend has a PSP and I've played Liberty City Stories and it's nothing special. I also paid 1/5 the price for my copy of Gangstar.
