Everytime I launch garageband, i get a nasty error (a few times) and then it quits - what gives? Tried reinstalling and it didn't help.

Any pointers?

Me too...!

I'm having the very same problem. It all started when I first did a clean install of Tiger a couple of weeks ago and now I can't use Garageband. My midi setup in utilities has also stopped working yet my computer can still playback midi files. Hmmmmm How bizarre! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have not seen this before, but have you tried the usual?

Repair permissions (in Disk Utility)
Trashing preferences (spotlight search for garageband plist file - not at my mac just now so I don't know exactly what it is called)

I also remember some problems a while back which required CoreAudio to be re-initialized. However, as this was done by launching Garageband this method may not help, but there might be another way of re-initializing it.
