Sorry for the long description, but I thought being thorough would be best:
I launched GarageBand this morning after an evening of successful composition and found that it was not able to open any of my existing projects. Each time I launched the program, it would load, then attempt to open the last open project and crash with a bug submission form.
Actually, GB didn't completely crash... the app was still open, but not able to finish the process of opening a project. It would sit there forever (spinning wait cursor) until I force-quit the program.
I tried reinstalling (after removing all GB-related files) and the same problem persists. With the fresh reinstall, it was able to open the default (new and empty) project, but when I try to open any of my old projects, the same crash mentioned above happens. [This may be unrelated, but GB is also now adding two keyboard tracks to new projects instead of just the default one it was before.]
I did play around with making my own loops (AppleLoops SDK), but this never resulted in any crashes. I was even able to shut down and restart the computer without any problems until this morning. I have not installed any new software (except he SDK listed above), so I'm not sure what could be the problem. I have not experienced any other program crashes lately that I can remember.
I have run DiskUtility and repaired permissions and run a disk check (no problems). This did not fix the problem. I'm close to wiping a spare volume, installing 10.3 and GB and seeing if I can open the old projects from there.
I'm using the latest version of 10.3 on a 933MHz G4 with 512MB of RAM.
Does anyone have any idea what might have caused this and whether my old projects are dead?
