In GarageBand can you record one really long audio file, then divide it up into seperate tracks at a later time to burn onto a CD?

Examples would be DJ mixes where you want one continuous mix but have track divisions between songs or a live music show where you want to record the whole thing, but seperate the songs.

I don't believe garageband does this, or at least I never had tried. Might want to search www.versiontracker.com for something like split audio.

Garageband doesn't do that. You need a CD mastering program (where you can assign CD track positions within a digitized audio recording). IIRC, Roxio's toast has this feature (audio recording, track marking, burn to disk), so you might check them out.

You techically could do it in garageband. Record the big track. Move the time line divder ruler thing to where you want the next track to start. Then select, Split track. that will make a cut where you selected. Repeat that process until you have cut up the whole big track to where you want the tracks to start and end...Then create seperate tracks for each seperate divided up piece you made. then, drag the pieces into the tracks you created one by one starting at the first one and go down from there. Then, mute all the tracks exept for the one that you want to keep (like the first piece,) and select add to iTunes, or export or whatever it is. That will mix down the tracks, but exclude all the muted ones, leaving only the one you left unmuted. Repeat that process over and over again, until you have all your tracks seperated in iTunes. You should name them 1-whatever number to keep yourself organized.


Or just use jam or toast. Phew!
