Garageband question

I would like to save my files as something other than .band so I can share them with friends of upload them on a website. How can I do that? or can I?

Click on Share Menu at very top menu bar and then click "Export to Disk"

By 'share' do you mean have them listen to it, or have them be able to open the garageband file? You can either export as an aac, or if they want the source, just zip or stuff it.
