Looks like Samsung is doing better than some predicted and Apple is doing great as always!
Interesting to watch Huawei sales rise as the Nexus 6P sales have to be helping them a LOT!

Nothing really surprising here. My prediction: within 2 years Apple will be 3rd on that list behind Huawei.

It is sad to see it be a 2 horse race regarding mobile OS. I genuinely wish Microsoft could figure out a way to shoehorn themselves into relevancy as I don't think having just 2 dominant players is best for industry. Just my $0.02, of course.

I agree....it would be nice to see the new Windows 10 phones do well to add a third mobile OS to the mix. More competition is always a good thing.

BB at under 1k units. I'm surprised they are even around any more.

Well, Android isn't exactly 1 OS, at the very minimum it's three (AOSP, Nexus Android, OEM Android) and really every implementation of Android is competitive. If we have learned anything from the desktop environment, the public only has the patience to learn one or two OS's at most.

I like that prediction. Not because I want to see another company surpass Apple. Like the Star Wars "forever" franchise, Apple will still be relevant long after we all die just like more SW films will be made forever until the end of time. I just think Huawei is a pretty good company.

Huawei is like a combination of Xiaomi (sell Honor series online and very competitive prices), Oppo (design), and HTC (design), and Samsung (makes their own SoC). They make excellent designs but can cover the low end market too like Xiaomi. They have been a brand to watch during the last two years ever since their P6 and Mate series. If they rise to #2, it would be no fluke and purely hard work at their part.

Samsung isn't doing bad but they were at 29% last year or so. It isn't doom and gloom like some people may think to believe. Whenever they are #1 within the next 5-10 years is still anyone's guess. Samsung is like a Motorola or Nokia. They aren't a forever and ever relevant brand like Apple and Disney will be until the end of time.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple went back more towards what it was post iPod, where it has a moderate but by no means dominant place in the market. The difference is, this time around, Apple should maintain a more streamlined list of products.

Indeed, Samsung doing far better than the trolls were trying to make it out to be.

I to wish we had at least 3 dominant OS, but 2 seems to be where it stays, even before Android and iOS, we had Symbian vs. Windows Mobile.

Thank you!

I to have been saying this for a long time, Huawei are the company to watch, not only do they make their own SoCs, they make their own network equipment and have great network IP, they are a freak mix of what you said PLUS Ericsson.

3-4years ago they implemented a brilliant strategy to 1st get into developing economies with good low end phones and cheap mobile wifi modems that they sold to networks like Vodafone. Since the P6 they ventured into the mid and high end with the Mate 7.

I give them 2years to either match or dethrone Samsung. They will surpass Apple with no problem, but it will take a wider and faster distribution network and better differentiation for them to pass Samsung.

One of the things apple has and to a certain extent Samsung, is a worldwide service and support system. That doesn't happen overnight. Selling more phones than apple is not a problem based on price. Selling large quantities of phones and having a successful mobile business are two different things.

As we speak Huawei are implementing it, they have made deep relationships with large networks, thanks to their network equipment and modem businesses, they are also the go to OEM for the networks when they want a network brand device (much like what HTC did in the WM days).

Their strategy is more cunning and well thoughtout than any other OEM. Their support down here for example is a great partnership with networks, you take your Huawei in for repair you get a Huawei loan phone.

What they need to work on is faster and more consistent updates.

If they want to seriously sell in the US, they will need to do this. I wouldn't buy a phone that I couldn't replace in .5 hour. One of the reasons I like the combination of Verizon and Apple.

Indeed.

Its the same reason I stick to Samsung down here. I once had to take my old S4 for a screen repair, took them about an hour, I was on the way home in traffic when they told me its done.

Hopefully Huawei will get it right globally.
