Gates prediction in 2005 on Tablet PCs

Hi guys,

I'm doing a research on tablets for college and I came across this:

“Within five years, I predict that it will be the most popular form of PC sold in America” - Bill Gates, 2001

The link is a research on tablets sold in 2005(1 million worldwide) against Gates's prediction when he launch the tablet PC in 2001.

There is also this:
“First, he said[Steve Jobs], tablet computers were not a big enough market for Apple to spend its limited resources chasing. And even if the market grew, it would not reach a size to be of interest. The form factor was all wrong. Apple was more interested in defining markets than trying to catch other companies that were busy trying to create a market for questionable products.”

The article has been written in 2007.

And Steve Jobs held onto his words. He (or Apple) introduced a market defining product, not one of those hybrids the other vendors released.

And as we can see, it seems to be some kind of success, as two million sold iPads shan't be that bad, even though it took them almost two months.

Bill correct that Tablets are the future, he always did have a razor sharp business sense. Steve correct that the form factor was all wrong, he always had an eye for style and what people want.

I owned, tried to use, and sold one of Bill's style tablets. I now own, use, and love one of Steve's.

Great prediction. I'm glad the day has finally come. It just took the right kind of tablet (hardware and software) to brake through and be a hit. Awesome!

I liked the Tablet PC OS; but the Acer 303 I had sucked.
