GB is better than i expected!!

I just got my GB today and spent most of the day playing with.

I was really looking forward to it and quite optimistic I was going to like it.

But it exceeds my expectations.

A couple of features I really like are the loop editing (as well as repeat, the trimming tool is excellent)

Also I like the effects. As I like heavier music, I was impressed to find I could apply any of the effects to a audio loop.

Hence I took something like any of the Folk Mandolin loops and applied the Crunchy Drums effect. Sound's pretty good if you like your music with an edge!

I guess it's more flexible than I expected and the loops are better than Steve & John showed.

I guess I'm used to these apps creating something that sounds electronic - good for dance genres, but not for rock.

GarageBand rocks!

It's better than I expected to. Both my dad and my brother are addicted to it! When my brother got out of bed this morning before school, he was walking up the stairs to my room (I had already left for work) with his eyes still half closed, on his way to go and use GarageBand for a bit before school! :eek:
 
I think it's really good too. I just wish it didn't use up so much juice - even when idle it's hogging around 40% processor power. I did have a problem with the hard drive in my PB not being fast enough yesterday but it was ok the second time I recorded a part.

Maybe optimisations will come with minor updates. Can't wait for what might come with the major updates though. The 1.0 release has already meant I don't need to shell out on any pro/semi-pro audio package!

One thing I learned recently is that if you repair disk permissions after installing iLife, you'll see a drop in idle processor power. Mine went from 38% to about 20-25%. (And my machine is slower than yours.) Of course, amount of tracks and effects changes that, but that's not anything new. Hope this helps. :)
 
Garageband is just another good reason for people to buy a Mac.
$49 is a ridiculously low price for such good software.

I'm waiting with baited breath for the next half-wit pc-junkie to enter my domain.
I will mercilessly unveil Garageband, Panther and FCE, and watch him shrivel.
 
They must have spent a fair few many hours working on GarageBand. GarageBand definately exists to sell more Macs, and sell Macs I think it will :D :)
 
One of my good friends, a musician himself, came over to check out my new app, and was totally blown away. He has decided to buy a mac just to use garageband. (He laughed at me for buying one not 12 months ago!!!)

In the past, he used that pc program nuendo. Supposedly it pails in comparison to GB. This little app will replace his keyboard and 8track recorder completely.

In essence, he plans to spend ~ $1500 for GB!!! That's one cool app.

Nuendo doesn't pale in comparison to GB. You can do a hell of a lot more on Nuendo if you know what you're doing, just like Logic or DP.
For a typical musician (not arranger/programmer/composer) who just wants to get his idea down and do a great job doing just that, there probably isn't a better software than GB out there, and considering the price, it'ss absolutely amazing.
 
And it has a feature I haven't seen in other OSX apps that will make a lot of Windows users feel right at home... Error messages!!! :D :D

One feature it is sadly lacking tho is GTB. Software as good and addictive as this really needs some sort of GTB or TUB functionality. (Go To Bed and Times Up Buddy)

Maybe I will have to get Mac Minder for me!!! :D :D :D

go to applications, then into utilities then to Disk Utility.

Click on the harddrive Garageband is installed onto and go to First Aid, then click on repair disk permissions.
