I just downloaded the GBA4iOS emulator app via the website http://www.gba4iosapp.com and downloaded one of the games I happen to own with my still working SNES.... Super Mario Bros. No pirating here!

I can confirm that this works on both iOS 8.0.2 and 8.1.1. Additionally, if you have an external MFi certified controller (I have the Mad Catz CTRLi controller) it works with the emulator too. And of course you can play in both landscape and portrait modes.

The developers have done an excellent job on this emulator. If you like those old school Nintendo games and don't want to jailbreak, this is for you.

Downloading = Pirating. It doesn't matter if you own it or not. I'd recommend a Retrode, but it isn't being produced anymore :(

wrong. I own the original cartridge. US courts have ruled it is legal for me to download digital copies.

Source?

They've revoked the certificate again.

This wouldn't be a big deal if Apple allowed side-loading.

I think the big issue that Apple has with it is that these things don't work standalone. If you look on the Google Play and Windows Phone Marketplace, you often see people who don't understand that these aren't apps with games included and that legally developers can't point you in that direction.

They also want your money. :p

And then we'd likely see story after story of the "Masque Attack" on sites like this and beyond: https://www.macrumors.com/2014/11/13/us-government-masque-attack-warning/

No, no we wouldn't. In fact, we would see LESS "security" stories. Apple could even port their Developer ID program over to iOS, in which developers would be required to sign their apps like they already do, but would be able to distribute them outside of the app store. (Signed albeit without App Store restrictions. I.E Private Frameworks)

If a developer is found doing nasty things (like stealing data, ransomware, etc) then his/her "ID" would be revoked.

Android doesn't have "app security" story after story because Android has the option turned OFF by default. Apple would need to do the same.

TL;DR: All I want is Gatekeeper for iOS.

Android has plenty of those stories though while Apple has practically none. If Apple had even just some part of what Android gets in press here and there about it all it would already be multiples more than it ever had, which is a huge change for Apple's iOS realm. I'm not saying that it's good or bad or right or wrong, simply pointing out at least one of the factors that likely plays a role in all of this (if not one of the more important roles).
