Besides the camera and no camera. Is the Gear 2 made of metal and the Neo made of plastic? Wondering if Samsung will do that as well with the S5 with a metal and plastic version.

Samsung has announced the Gear 2 & Gear 2 Neo and they have dropped Android for their own OS Tizen.

This was already expected. Android as an OS was overkill for a smart watch. Tizen is designed for something with small amounts of RAM. Similar to Asha on Windows/Nokia.
It is actually a smart move on Samsungs part to get a watch that is smoother to operate with less latency and lag from input.

So now they've fragmented the series. Cameras here, no cameras there, and a completely new OS.

How is this not going to go wrong?

We get it! You don't like Samsung.

For me, I really would like a fitness watch that works we'll with my fabulous Samsung Note 3. This may be it?

Although a bit pricey and it only works with Samsung phones, this is the type of watch I have been looking for. I want a constant HR monitor and a standalone music player while I'm working out. Only real key feature missing is a GPS module.

Agreed! GPS would be great for tracking either runs, walks, or bicycle rides.

Really Tizen makes sense. As long as the phone works with Samsung apps on Samsung phones then there shouldn't be an issue.

Still probably wouldn't buy one personally but if it makes it easier for Samsung to keep the software up to date and roll it out fast then yeah its a good thing for end user.

Please give it a rest. You've become a broken record.

I wish Samsung would allow these watches to be used with any android device but I guess their goal is to sell more Samsung phones, not just the watch themselves. Interested to see what type of smart watch Apple and Google release in the future..

They both have cameras.

The new OS is one thing, but it's hardly likely that your watch is getting the newest Android version anyway.

Love the concept of a smart watch but not interested in the current ones. If I were to get one I'd plump for the Pebble tho.

Tizen is a better OS than Android for a smart watch I agree.

Thats always the goal for all hardware OEM's, although most of my buddies who loved samsung claimed that apple was the company that was the "closed" operator and Samsung will always show "love" to others (Seriously this is what many claimed :) ) ... I dont blame samsung though , they have spent millions doing the hardware and want to sell phones because of it..Their eco-system is not as large (especially one that involves software) but they sure would want to make it sizable so its tough to leave..

Yeah, Apple's watch could be really nice and much more streamlined. Also, Google's could be pretty good and a lot cheaper. Unfortunately, for either, it could be a good wait. So, for me, even though Samsung's watch isn't the best looking, it's the only option (I want to pair it with my note). If you have a different phone, then I can see why it isn't necessarily an option.

Hopefully, if they really make a watch, Apple doesn't restrict it to iOS.

At least we're now seeing Tizen products getting into the market. Definitely a fascinating platform which hopefully gets adopted in the market.

I still think the Gear is just so.....un-inspired....

Oooohh wow, you put a camera and phone capabilities in a watch. Any other ideas from the 50s you wanna try and implement Samsung?

I really hope Apple does something "smart" with their smartwatch.

What kills it for me is that it requires the use of a smartphone. I'd want this when I didn't want to bring my smartphone with me.
