Cool! That would be great to keep with you when travelling... and then back at home seeing all things again as it was in a real world.

I'm very interested but sounds like you need a Galaxy phone to handle the processing. :(

I'm very excited but I'm afraid what the cost would be. My estimate is between $200 to $300. I would like to mount it on my motorcycle helmet or use it at events. Just imagine all the various videos people are going to have on the internet. The content will be crazy and that alone would make Gear VR a must buy for the phone.
Apple is about to get blindsided big time if they don't take this seriously. Even GoPro should start worrying.

No different then needing a iPhone for an Apple Watch.

Nice. Very impressive. I can't wait to try VR. I don't plan to be an early adopter though. Still think it needs to mature, but very cool stuff.

Mounting it on my helmet is one of first things that came to mind. :D

I'm definitely going to mount it on top of my car.

I wouldn't put it past GoPro or Drift to already start working on 360 cameras.

VR gaming definitely needs to mature, but it's off to a great start.

Not the same thing. Smart watches in most circumstances require connection with a smartphone for their internet connectivity. Cameras have functioned independently from additional devices since, well, forever.

Samsung is certainly entitled to lock it down but they're just limiting its success by doing so. I can understand how the VR functionalities would be limited without having a Gear VR compatible smartphone but otherwise, it's just lost sales opportunities. There are plenty of options available that are functional across multiple platforms much less requiring a specific smartphone to function--just means anyone without a latest gen Samsung phone won't be buying one.

As a Samsung consumer such as myself, that's a win. Cause I would be hard pressed to find a VR or 360 cam of the same quality without spending hundreds of dollars more. There is definitely a new generation tech war brewing, and Samsung has the head start lead and wants to keep it. Part of making sure they are the main brand of the next gen tech is to create a branded eco system of it.

But the chances of Apple Watch working on the S7 is no different from the Gear 360 working on iPhone. That's the point of view I was taking. And when Apple finally sees the light I don't expect Apple VR accessories to work with any Android device.
One day Samsung will be giving away these cameras like their doing right now with Gear VR. Their main objective is to sale Samsung phones; not ensure compatibility with non-Samsung phones.

My apprehension with this are two fold.

Locked to Samsung.

Not ruggedized.

Doing 360 video for surfing, biking, and traveling are top of my list but I want a hardware agnostic device, that can handle rough abuse.

I can't wait until one comes with a dive housing. That will be next level awesome
