Ok So this is what I have
Macbook Pro 2.2ghz, Leopard, 200GB HDD, 4GB RAM, and XP Pro on Boot Camp.

Any chance that someone has run either of these games on a similar setup? Does anyone know if these games would run at all? Whats the max something like this setup would run in terms of games? Any info would be good.

I'm upping to 2Gb on my iMac tomorrow, but I run 2142 Solidly on Full, with 1Gb- no problems, so I'd assume your 4Gb MBP would kick major butt.

I just got Battlefield 2142 last night its pretty fun disappointing that I can't find a real campaign and that there all only 5 map : / but they are done well. I haven't played GoW much but I would say BF2142 is a solid option.

And I will run with you. CoD 4 is a great game.

Now back to the topic. It depends what you want in a game.

Great single player story with alright online experence that requires LIVE, Gears.

Great online and its free, 2142.

Does 2142 connect to all 2142 servers yet? I didnt think the patch had been released in sync with the Windows version of the game.

ya, here's a download that worked for me :). New level rocks. But not as much as the new Warhawk one ;).

ftp://ftp.multiplay.co.uk/pub/games...s/mac/Battlefield-2142-Update-485-to-941A.zip.

Thanks for that link spyker ;)

Is 2142 running on OS X under Cedega or is it a proper Universal Binary? i.e. Native Cocoa app... I recall reading somewhere about it being a Cedega application which put me off buying it, but if not, I'll rush out now to save me rebooting all the time ;)

Well i have Battlefield 2142 for XP, and it crashes every once in a while, it makes my whole comp have to restard, and takes about 5 minutes to restart. Other than that, its pretty solid. Also, for some reason on XP i cant hook up my plasma tv which is gay, cause thats what i wanted it for.

battlefield is ridiculously unstable

The occasional user can run BF 2142 at reasonable settings.... but most can't.

I have a first gen macboook pro at 2.16 GHz AND a first gen iMac at 2.0 GHz. Both of them have 2 gigs of memory and 256 megs of VRAM.

The game runs poorly on both. I have to keep all settings turned down (save for resolution and view distance... have to keep resolution up so i can read the damn text)

When it runs, it's good. The game is fun. But I can't even put into words how often this game crashes. Sometimes you'll get lucky and get a streak of a few hours. It you go longer than 2 hours without a crash then you're having a REALLY good day. On a bad day the game will crash 5 times in one hour.

Both EA's support and Transgaming support (they make Cider) have been extremely unhelpful.

I emailed DICE the other day requesting a copy of the PC version of bf 2142.
You can use the same serial number as with the mac version. So I just want the DVD so I can install it in bootcamp and turn up all the settings (cause my machine should be able to handle that) as opposed to keeping them on low right now, not having to worry about framerate, and significantly less crashes.

ALSO, the geniuses at EA decided it would be a good idea to port the game but NOT to port the expansion pack.
The expansion pack, which includes new unlocks, can be used by all your opponents... but not you, cause you use a mac. (you CAN use your temporary unlock points - the field upgrades - on unlocks from the expansion pack, but you'll lose them as soon as you go to a different server).

This is another reason I want the PC version... so that I CAN PAY THEM for the expansion pack.

If I didn't already have BF 2142 I'd probably buy COD4.

You can download the demos of BF 2142 and COD4 for Windows. I'd recommend trying them both out.

eeeeek i was just thinking about getting BF2142 for my MBP but after reading that.........

i want a first person shooter for my MBP which runs on OSX cause i dont want to install XP with bootcamp in order to save HD space and such.

anyone know when Call of Duty 4 will come out for Mac?

Just FYI for anyone else whos interested. Gears of War runs great on my MBP!
