Geekbench 4.1.0 New Compute Benchmark

Geekbench 4.1.0 has been released. With it comes a Compute Benchmark:

"Geekbench 4.1.0 brings the new Compute Benchmark to iOS. Written using Metal, the Compute Benchmark measures the performance of the GPU at executing common compute tasks such as image processing and computational photography."

I'm curious what model phones are getting what scores for this one. When you post your scores, please post the model with memory and carrier. Maybe there are differences between them? Here's mine:

Model: iPhone 7 Plus (MN5D2LL/A)
Storage: 256 GB
Carrier: AT&T
iOS: 10.3.0

Metal Score: 12516

And since this is a new Update, I ran the CPU Benchmark and here are my scores there:

Single Core: 3484 (slightly higher than last run after upgrading to 10.3 which was 3444)
Multi CPU: 5899 (Higher than last run after upgrading to 10.3 which was 5721)

That's fantastic! I paid $0.99 for it back in September. Even if it's not free, not a bad price to pay if you are interested in how technology changes affect the numbers.

Pretty impressive phone GPUs, eh. The 7 Plus there isn't terribly far from the GT 755. Granted that 755M is about an order of magnitude away from a modern 1060, but that's just the physics of it.

Exactly my point...how would we know if it's the correct information? I don't mind really...but posting the Geekbench screenshot is just much easier and more informative imo ..

I think posting screenshots make it much more cluttered. A few simple lines of text are much easier to read. Especially when everyone is putting it in the same format. Its not like this is scientific and we are running an experiment.

I think just the opposite...screenshots are much clearer as they all have the exact same overview compared to just some lines of text depending heavily on the poster.

Ah well...whatever everyone wants to do I guess...

If I'm not mistaken, the desktop edition uses OpenCL, so the results aren't directly comparable.

I was getting poor results until I noticed I had power saving on, but then, when I reran it I was getting far better results compared to the other 6s'. Except the Metal benchmark. Did Apple change something that increased the processing power? And what is wrong with Metal?

I just noticed with the new update, that it now includes "Run Face Detection." I didn't really pay attention earlier. I wonder if that represents the S8 and the developer left that test in for iOS, or is that a hint of what is expected? Interesting.

Face detection is a benchmark test that has been used for compute tests in many GPU reviews for several years. The code is also included in Geekbench.

Further more, if I'm not mistaken, it doesn't necessarily refer to face detection as a security feature. If you look in the Photos app on an iPhone, you'll see an album named People... That's Face Detection for you.
But yeah, a benchmark doesn't represent what the device will actually be used for (necessarily).

Why the low scores? Power saving is off, all background apps are closed, I ran both tests multiple times after resetting the phone and reinstalling the app... Am I missing something?

That is kinda weird actually. What's the temperature of your phone like when you run the tests? Does it feel really hot? What's your battery percentage like when you run it?

9187 with my iPhone 6s with 15% battery life left and Low Power Mode on... I don't know how to take that actually but I'm sharing anyway.
Edit: FWIW, it's a standard 6s 128GB with 99 GB left. iOS 9.3.3.

Nope, it stays completely cool throughout the test. Most runs were done above 70% battery, both on and off the charger.

It is very weird lol. I baby the phone so there shouldn't be any physical damage. There are a few occasional freezes/performance hits, but I always assumed those issues had to do with running beta software. My only other problem with the phone is the horrible battery life I've been getting for the past couple of months, but it's eligible for the battery replacement program. When I finally take it in I guess I'll have the Genius run diagnostics.

Curious to see if anybody gets results similar to mine.
