Basically this confirms that the A12Z SoC really is only the same A12X but with one more GPU core activated. Same clock speed and everything. Before the benches came out I had hoped to see a clock speed boost to maybe around 2.8 GHz, but no such luck. And I betcha that GPU core was already there, but A12X has one core deactivated for yield reasons. A12Z likely represents a binned chip where all 8 cores can be utilized.
The good news is it again confirms the 6 GB RAM, at least for this particular 8,12 model.
So, will A14X be 30-40% faster than A12X?

So in other words: if you have a 2018 iPad Pro, unless you like lidar cameras, dont bother upgrading
trust me this iPad Pro speed wise is very fast as it is...and techinally it does have the latest processor available for the tablet. This is disappointing news. I was ready to replace the Ipad Air 3 which I got as a temporary tablet with the new Ipad pro but with the ongoing price I would prefer to have the latest processor.
Does anyone know if the new Ipad pro supports deep fusion and other features from A13? Not that I would be interestied on taking photos with it but it would be a good indication whether there might be other future limitations compared to current generation.
One of the reasons why Apple chose the A12Z might be that they can advertise larger gains in performance when A14X comes out.
Only on the 1TB model? The good news is it again confirms the 6 GB RAM, at least for this particular 8,12 model.
Only on the 1TB model?![]()
The RAM upgrade to 6 GB is a pretty big deal for example, even if it isn’t advertised.pretty pointless upgrade from the gen 3. hopefully they have at least strengthened the chassis at least
What particular piece of information in particular? I already posted the Geekbench links.Where did you get this info from ? Can you please post the link of the source ?

Fingers crossed. I think ~30% is realistic on the single core. Would be great if Apple manages to make that 40% and gives x86 single core scores a run out again. So, will A14X be 30-40% faster than A12X?
Multiple iPad Pros have been tested already. They’re all about the same.I am wondering if this iPad Pro that was tested had time to index its self and all that. I have with every device run a benchmark as soon as it is set up, then used it for a couple days then cleared the ram again and the numbers always are higher by 100-250 across the board.
I'm keeping my 2018 iPad Pro
I already suspected minor performance upgrade in the CPU
Waiting for iPad Pro With:
A14
16GB Ram
5G
Better rear camera
Given the rumors of 5G A14X before the end of the year, I'll wait for that... Especially with Covid linkey blocking everything till at least the summer in the Western world....The RAM upgrade to 6 GB is a pretty big deal for example, even if it isn’t advertised.
While I wouldn’t necessarily recommend those with the 3rd generation upgrade to this, that’s not the main target market anyway for the 4th generation. The main target market is those with older machines and those without any iPad Pro at all.
The 128 GB base storage is also a great incentive for people like me. I don’t need 256 GB, but I find 64 GB tight.
The biggest disappointment for me is the lack of 5G. I didn’t really expect it, but hoped for it. If I didn’t want a cellular model I’d buy right now. However, since I want a cellular model, I’m hesitating a bit.
Anyhow, I can wait a bit to think about it since I do have a 2nd gen 10.5” iPad Pro with keyboard, and I don’t like using iPads without a keyboard. Unfortunately the Magic Keyboard for the 3rd/4th gen iPad Pro isn’t even out until May. Plus the fact that I’m stuck at home anyway both for work and play right now means I don’t actually need another iPad Pro for the time being. My wife and kids all already have their own iPads (iPad 7 128 GB cellular with keyboard for wife, and iPad Air 2 64 GB for each of my kids). I was going to leave my 10.5” iPad Pro 64 GB WiFi at work and use an 11” 128 GB Cellular with keyboard everywhere else but now I’m working from home most of the time for reasons everyone is aware of.

Given the rumors of 5G A14X before the end of the year,
Except rumors are saying otherwise this time and it would not be the first time Apple changes the timing... Especially as the same rumors say everything else will stay the same....or if you don't like faster LTE (although not 5G), or Wifi 6 (ax)
An update to the Pro in less than a year would not be expected based upon the timing of previous updates.
