Geekbench says i have a late 2006 macbook, 2.16ghz... even tho i bough it last week

title explains it.. the macbook packaging says 2.16ghz... now it came with 10.4.9... is this a may model.. or is geekbench right in it being a late 2006 model??

anyway.. i scored 2769 on it!!

GeekBench gets the model name from the same place System Profiler gets it, so you would think that if both of them say "(Late 2006)" it must be right. But the Late 2006 models didn't even get in the T7400 range. What's really weird is that it says "Core(TM)2 CPU", without the "Duo".

What an enigma.

I would definitely get in touch with Apple and ask them (politely of course) if they could explain the apparent manufacturing date as well as the Core 2 CPU. There may not be any problem but........

You're fine, no need to stress. Apple refers to them as Late 2006 when they went to Core 2 Duo. If you look at the Firmware Update page (before site redesign), it labeled my model a Late 2006 even though I bought it in 2007. The MacBook had it's refresh in Late 2006, hence the name you see.

Hope that helps.

Also, take a look at your results page, you will see Physical Processors 1, Logical Processors 2. That is a Core 2 Duo system. Since you have 2 Processors on 1 Physical Die.
 
Yeah, you got an old one. It says 2.16GHz, which is the old model from Oct 06. The new ones are 2.2GHz.

You should get that switched.

Yeah, as said, it goes by revisions -- meaning typically when there's a change to the processor, video card, chipset, hard drive sizes, etc.

The Macbook had two revisions -- the first was the version that came with a Core Duo (early or mid 2006) and the second was the one that came with the C2D (late 2006). The MBP had three, I think (essentially, Core Duo, C2D, Santa Rosa).

For some reason Apple didn't update the model string in the latest MacBook revision, so both the Late 2006 and Mid 2007 MacBooks identify themselves to Geekbench (and other programs) as Late 2006. Since your MacBook has a 2.16GHz processor, you've most certainly got a Mid 2007 MacBook.
 
dont mean to argue with this person but core duo were also dual core. anything pentium d and later are dual core. <-- 2 Processors on 1 Physical Die

nownot, not to get into a pi**ing match, but I never said that a Core Duo wasn't a 2 processor system. I was merely stating the fact that when the MacBook went from Core Duo to Core 2 Duo (with their other minor updates) Apple referred to it as Late 2006. Geekbench needs to update how it reports it's findings on the main report screen. I'm sure Geekbench probably reports a Core Duo as Core Duo, while the Core 2 Duo is being reported as Core 2. The minor refresh the MacBook just had is obviously no reason to change it's internal titling. Only thing that changed this time was processor speed.

I might be labeled "macrumors newbie", but I certainly don't need an education on Intel Processors.

Since you have 2 Processors on 1 Physical Die." like i said not getting into a match but you typed that and reading that for what it is that translates int a core duo wont show 2 processors on 1 die. and if you get this offended when someone tries to correct you then i feel sorry for your soul. :( :( :( you might know what you meant to type but its not what you typed.

When it comes to Intel processors, Geekbench gets the processor string it displays from the processor itself; I'm not sure why, but Intel decided to drop the "Duo" suffix from a lot of Core 2 Duo chips (the T7500 and T7700 which are in the new MacBook Pros being the only exceptions I've seen).
