Ok, My 1,1 is on it's way

Decided on the X5355 2.66 Quad
Gonna start with 16GB Ram
Gonna get a HD5770 vid card
Gonna run SSD's for system and audio/video drives

I also plan to start on 10.7 EFI32, but will also run the boot to 64 hack for 10.8 on a separate drive till comfortable

What can I expect for GeekBench Scores?

I know there are people here running this/these config/s, and I'm curious to see what it will do.

Please specify 32/64

Thanx!

Thanx Amethyst ;)

But it would be nice if there were full specs, like amount of ram, vid card, HDD's/SSD's......

Still a point of reference tho...

Wirelessly posted

I have the exact same system specs but use 4870 and 2600 to run four displays...my geek bench is 9400 in 32 bit mode.

How much is all this going to cost?

$544 RAM

120GB SSD's $120 x 2

Apple 5770 $200

PCI ver. 1

Plus the cost of the machine, and you have to hack the new OS on there..

We're getting into 4,1 territory price wise

Memory - 16GB (8x2GB) for $120 shipped NEW
VID - SilentCell 5770 Flashed - $60 Local Cash - claims DVI Boot screen, we'll see
Pair X5355 Quad 2.66's for 8 cores - $135 Shipped
SSD's - 128GB and 256GB New unopened from Craigs, run TRIM Enabler - $200 for the pair
640GB WD Dual Platter 7200's x2 (Already have)

Machine $559
'Mods' - $515

$1074 investment for a machine that will make me $45/hr on local audio - $450/day on major label

This will pay for itself in a hurry.

Also, I can sell off the old vid card, memory, processors, 250gb hdd it comes with.... and that'll all probably bring me $100-150 back.... or just keep it all for spares

And, the SSD's can come with to a new machine (SATA III 6G's), but I will likely just keep this joker around for a LONG time... even after an upgrade, as a spare.

I've done major label projects recently on a G5 DP1.8 with 4GB RAM.... so I think this will replace it nicely ;)

I do see what you are saying with costs of upgrades verses buying a newer 3,1 or 4,1 ..... but not in this config - I'd spend far far more for the newer model. I understand that I'm patching for 10.8 and that I won't bench what a newer model will, but this is going to work just fine for me for a few years, at a very minimal investment - respectively.

Gotta love this forum, I've learned a lot about how to best utilize the 1,1 on here ;)

thanx guys and gals ;)

1074 Still not worth it IMHO..

'Tis your money though and they are great!
