Do you find yourself frequently grabbing your remote in order to cope with sudden increases in median volume (which happens all too often with certain ads)? Gefen, which makes a variety of connectivity boxes and gadgets, is introducing what it bills as a remedy to this extremely annoying problem.

The GeffenTV Auto Volume Stabilizer connects to your audio source and speakers (or receiver or flat panel display) via either standard L/R stereo or digital (TOSlink or S/PDIF) inputs and outputs; you use its built-in selector to specify which audio to stabilize). The device also supports Dolby encoded formats for movies and other programs that use them.

The device is due next month for $200. An HDMI version is due later this year.

This is genius. I hate how loud commercials are.

Brilliant - this has been increasingly a problem over the last few years. Some of the volume differentials between programming and commercials is obscene. Yes, I know they are trying to aurally follow me into the kinchen or bathroom, but jeez!
