I was wondering if anyone knew of an hack to enable a GeForceFX Go5200 to support resolutions of more than 1024x768? I assume this is just firmware controlled like the ibooks? Thanks Much if you can help me.

If your talking about a 12-inch PowerBook, the resolution isn't 1024x768 because of the graphics card, but because of the screen. You can easily connect it to an external display and use 1900x resolutions.

whoooah thats a pretty daft question. TFT's work differently from CRT. you cant just up it to 1900 on the PB itself. apart from GUI scaling (which dosnt seem to work right for me) i dont want anything higher than 1024 for a 12" screen.

do your research next time. look a little further into the details on what your buying

stop whining about your 12in not going above 1024x768 and do research next time. (btw, the 12 and 14in iBooks are also 1024x768)

For the extra $500 you spent on a powerbook, you got:

Better design
Faster processor
Faster graphics
Monitor spanning ability
More pro ports
More HD space (?)

So stop whinning and enjoy your powerbook. If you dont like the screen resolution, get external 23 inch Apple Cinema Display

Ok, everyone on the forums seems to be getting to be complete asses, no wonder this other guy left the forum.

I would rather have the 12" pb instead of a 12" ib, just because of all the stuff you get. I'm not sure if iBook's can span. I think you have to have extra (lol I put external lol) software for that. If you don't like the 12" PB, then save up some more money and see if someone would trade ya for some cash and ti, or if you wanna sell it then you could buy a 15.2" one.

I think they've started developement on a new kind of screen where its flat, it connects to your laptops monitor panel, and connects to a DVI port. Then you can expand your monitor w/out having to buy a new laptop or that.

EDIT: I just want to appologize for these others being so rude.

If it's not BTO I think you have 14 days to return it. Maybe just exchange for the iBook?

I agree with slookster about alot of the members being rude. We're all supposed to be "friends" and sociable. Alot of you acted like he said something about your wife by fuming because the PB wasn't able to do what he thought.

All that had to be said is that it wouldn't do that. Maybe you should've sought the answer before you bought.

My old ibook got stolen so i was planning on getting a new one using the insurance money. I did do my research, and i was going to get an ibook so i went to local bookstore and talk to them about it. They could of given me a base Ibook with Bluetooth installed and 40gig HD for 975(i think)........Plus tax apple care ram etc it came out to ~1400.......They however did have a previous edition 12 inch Powerbook with superdrive and 60gig 5200 RPM hard drive... for 1250(i think) so Spur of the minute i bought it....After everything it came out to be alittle over 1800. Its been ok my i dont think the extra features justify the extra price.....But its a nice computer>...For some reason my old G3 900mhz ibook seemed faster.....

Its a 1.33ghz Powerbook G4, with 1.25 gigs Ram, 60gig Hd, AE&BT1.1, and 4x DVD drive......

Still wish i had gone with the ibook, but whatever

As for the external monitor, why do i want that, i woulda bought a mini i want laptop that i can use on my lap....As for wanting higher resolution on a 12 inch display...i got 20/10 vision so a higher resolution on 12 inch display would be nice(i could still see it real well and have alot more realistate to play with).... so it would work good for me, not for you. I was under impression that apple had limited the firmware and it wasent the display for some reason...my bad

As for asking b4 i bought, i woke up this morning and was like i wish i could set my resolution higher, how do i do it.....well i cant so o well....

Maybe people don't have to be so rude, but this post is kinda flamebait:

Perhaps if he had phrased it better, he wouldn't have gotten those responses. Maybe you should've gotten the iBook, but you got the PowerBook. It's not the PBs fault you weren't aware of it's limitations. You could always sell it, and buy a new iBook whenever they come out. Or go to someplace like PowerMax or SmallDog to exchange it for credit towards a new one.

P.S: You get more files with honey. ;)

I beg to differ...

You get more flies with a stinky dead corpse than you can with honey.

With honey, you'll probably end up with ants.

Can't we all just get along?

1) Buyer's remorse is normal, we all have it at one time or another
2) Be careful the way you word things...they call us zelots for a reason
3) iBooks can't span video out of the box (they can be hacked), Powerbooks can (and do a better job than a hacked iBook)

You quoted me in that post, which means that *I* was rude. But please reread that post. I did'nt say anything rude. I just stated that PB has better specs than iBook, and advised the original poster to buy a big ACD, if he didnt like 1024x768.

If it hurt someone, please forgive me.
