I'll soon buy the 2.93GHz iMac, but don't know whether I should upgrade the video card to the Nvidia GeForce GT 130 ... is it much better?
I hope to do quite a lot of gaming and video editing. Cost is also a problem - so is it worth the money?
Thanks!

OP, if you do not need the iMac tomorrow, I would wait until the full comparisons are out between the GT 120, GT 130, & the HD 4850.
You could also opt for the 2008 iMac (3,06 with Nvidia GeForce 8800GS) and save some $.

Well I've gone ahead and ordered the 2.93 with the GT 130. Thanks for the comments guys! I hope I like it! It's my first ever Mac! :D

Best graphics chip for Aperture

I'm more than a little disappointed at this iMac announcement but my MBP can't handle my rapidly growing photo library and is groaning under the workload that Aperture puts on it so I am buying a new iMac anyway.

The extra cost of the fastest graphics adapter isn't a consideration, but will it make any difference to Aperture performance?

If you use Aperture to it's full extent and don't mind waiting another month or so, I would say get the ATI 4850. Personally I bought the 3.06GHz with the GT130 and it's a beast of a machine overall. Although I can confidently say it would more than suit your needs, there is no arguing that the 4850 will be a better gpu - mobile version and all. It may not be earth shattering better, but it will be better.

Grats' on your new first iMac! Let us know what you think of it.

Thanks. That's what I'm buying then. Waiting another month is no big deal ... I've been waiting 4-5 months for this announcement.

Good to hear and glad we could help. Hopefully you will find that you are not as disappointed with the latest updates as you think you are. I to was bummed at first. Now that I have and have used/tested one of the new models it really is a noticeable upgrade.

Seems to me people don't give the new 1066MHz DDR3 RAM (and 4 GB standard at that) enough merit. It makes everything so much faster and smoother - from the cpu to the gpu. Throw in 09 software upgrades, an extra USB port (losing FW400 not a big deal to me personally)and larger internal HDD standard, and turns out I'm now real happy and glad I upgraded (from the earlier 3.06GHz iMac with the 8800 GS btw).
