Hi, my Gen 1 iPad Pro 12" since updated to the latest iOS has been bricked. Out of nowhere.
It's fully charged and every time I try to use it ask to plug it into a power source saying the battery is drained.
I plug it in and briefly restart and then it holds the screen on for a minute or so and turns black again.
Does anybody encounter this issue? I appreciate any feedback.

I would suggest trying an Update first. If that does not work then do a Restore.
I did both. It did look good for a few minutes and then went back to the same issue. It's definitely a software issue. I am wondering if there is a way to downgrade the iOS version.

If it's on 15.2 then no. Could it be a problem with the battery?

At this point probably best to take it to an Apple Store.

I would agree with Taz on this one since it is still giving issues. I have not seen any other reports of a software brick issue on 15.2. It could be the battery is having physical issues. You could wait for 15.3 to come out but since we are still in beta 1, it could be awhile before we see the public bits.

Yeah, it's weird. It was going well through the restore but once it finished it and I disconnected from my Macbook, a few minutes later the issue came back. That's why I think it's a software bug. If the battery was shot, the iPad would not be fine through the long restore process. Anyway. Thanks for the feedback.

If it was running fine until you unplugged it from the MacBook, that would be another sign that it's a battery issue — it may be having trouble maintaining sufficient voltage to keep the system running for long after it is disconnected from external power.

Generally speaking, if it were a software issue the iPad would typically reboot or relaunch SpringBoard rather than power off entirely.

no, the same issue happens when it's plugged into a power brick. It worked while it was connected to the MBP during the restore, maybe it was stable due to the MBP handling the process instead of the iOS. Again, it is weird. I was excited during the restore because it went well and I thought the issue was resolved but then...
Since the iPad is out of warranty, I guess I need to wait for a new iOS update. If that doesn't solve it, then I guess I need to take for a repair or diagnostic at Apple.

Have you looked into the charging connector? It is not probably an issue but they can be fowled up by dust and dirt. The port can also become damaged over time, unfortunately it is not too uncommon. Another thing I would look at is the charger cable itself, specifically the gold connectors, I have seen them get damaged as well. I am thinking maybe when plugged into the wall, maybe the connection is either insufficient or broken. Could be just a coincidence that it worked with the Mac.

Hi, yes, I tried a few cables and chargers. Thanks for the input.

As a last resort before taking it to Apple, I would give a DFU restore a shot — if it's a firmware component that got corrupted during the last update causing this problem, this will force the device to overwrite it with the copy from the IPSW file.

Not necessarily. Does it continue to work while it remains connected to a power source?

If it does, then I agree with @SpecMode that it sounds like a battery issue.

You are the winner! :)
I did the DFU restore and it seems to have fixed the issue. It's been a few hours and the iPad looks stable. I guess it was indeed a firmware problem.
Thanks for the info! I really appreciate it. Happy New Year!
