How much is everyone getting on resale?

I have a gen 1 iPad Pro with a pencil and Apple keyboard. Was gonna put it up on eBay... as per usual but it seems like gen 1 iPad pro’s are going for relatively low sums.

It seems like the resale value is lower than usual.
 
iPads have always had exceptionally poor resale value. They’ve essentially become appliances where the market is largely saturated. Most people use them in such a basic capacity that there is little difference to them between a base model several years old and a newer Pro model. The fact that the new 9.7” base iPad supports the Pencil doesn’t help the Pro’s case.

The standard 2018 iPad has done for your resale value I fear - it's priced as a bargain by Apple standards, supports the pencil, and has a faster processor (and probably more longevity) than your 9.7 Pro. Of course there are compromises (the non-laminated screen etc) but you can see why it may be more attractive to some.
 
like any other product one might sell, see what other schlepps are selling theirs for and use that to determine if your feeble ipad is worth selling. i thought my imac igloo G4 would be worth 100$, ha! not even $20 bucks!

Totally know where you’re coming from. I have an original 2010 iPad and I think I’d have to pay a recycler to take it off my hands now, LOL.

If I were local to you I’d give you $100 for a working sunflower iMac. Hands down the coolest design Apple has come out with yet.

I still remember Jony and his “let every part be true to itself” speech in the video accompanying its release. (Also remember the $100 price hike after preorders had started!)

An original 12.9 pro? Resale value is as normal, excellent actually. I have no idea why people here are saying otherwise...

What other tablet can you own for three years and actually sell for 40% of original purchase price? Of course the value goes down after every new similar product release. At beginning of October it probably was worth 50% of original sale price.

If you keep an iPad in good physical condition it will retain a lot of its value. And be smart about when you sell if you really care about getting the most possible cash.

Our company just bought 2 iPad Pros 1st gen - we had a budget for $500 per setup (keyboard/iPad) - one of them we paid I believe $450, the other we found quite cheap for $300 or so (it was a 32GB unit, but still a great deal coming with the SmartKeyboard)

I will say bundling in the SmartKeyboard is what made me consider the listings I did. Those listings do stand out.

I’m bundling with pencil and keyboard. I think I’ll do ok... at least enough to offset the new pencil (already purchased) and probably the keyboard.

I sell my phones every year and usually do very well. Usually - the iPad gets passed along to someone.
 
The thing with iPads is you don’t sell them, you keep them around. Leave that one in the living room, kitchen, or whatever. Give it to your mom.

Resale value is indeed horrible, it simply isn’t worth it to sell them.

I traded my 2015 iPad Pro 12.9 +cellular in through Apple. They quoted me $250 but I actually received $266 once they received it. It was such a simple straight forward process, although I wish I got more for it, it helped offset the price of the new one.

I bought my first gen 12.9 for £630 - they're going 3 years later, for around £300 on ebay. That's not half bad.

Hell, Currys are offering £320 trade in. That works out at £8/month TCO.
 
I feel like Ipads hold their value pretty well actually, I can't believe how much the Ipad Air 2 and Ipad mine 3/4 are still worth these days for being as old as they are.

If it makes you feel any better, the Samsung Galaxy S6 32 GB sold for $679-700 brand new. I’m seeing prices around $150 for them now. Definitely more than half. It’s still a decent device, IMO. The OS just sucks. Lol.
 
I got my 1 year old 128gb Pro 9.7 with a year left of AppleCare for $308 on eBay in early September. Apple still sells that same model refurbished for $549 without AppleCare, and the Price paid was $749. That’s a massive amount of depreciation, and my situation wasn’t abnormal.
 
@venom600 Apple refurb will always have same-as-new AppleCare, fwiw.

Your pro 9.7 is a 2.5 year old device, released in March 2016. Even if Apple refuses to lower their price, the time since original release of the product affects the resale value.

Also, I think the biggest factor in resale value is if there are newer similar options available. 9.7 Pro was replaced by 10.5 pro, which is close to same footprint with huge improvements. Or there is the 2018 iPad with Pencil support, but much cheaper price point. The market for a Pro 9.7 has decreased a lot in the past 2.5 years.

Another example would be the fabled 2012 Mac Mini. It kept its resale value for 6 years because it had decent CPU, user-replaceable HD and RAM, and there was no better options available from Apple.
 
I bought a new one 12.9 (256GB; 2018) and had the choice of sending my 3 year old Gen 1 12.9 (128GB) to Apple for $275.

I have the smart keyboard, back sleeve, and pencil. Sold it locally for 525. Not that bad for something that is 3 years old.

I just sold an iPad Air 1 16 GB Wifi on Swappa for $95. I thought that was pretty good as I think I paid around $250 for it like 3 years ago.
