Is anyone with the new airpods gen 2 having a creaking sound when moving the case lid. The lid also moves in the direction of movement slightly.

That’s normal. My 1st Gen case has been like that since launch.
It needs to have some give so that it opens/closes as smooth as it does.
Stop worrying about it & enjoy your AirPods.
My 2nd gen airpods did not have this problem. There shouldn't be any creaking noises when moving the lid, feels very fake.
I have 3 different AirPods cases at home and none of them actually make that much noise when pushing it from side to side, it's certainly not a functional issue but it's more of a quality control issue than anything.
I disagree. There’s no ‘cheapness’ about it as it requires some force to notice it. Also, my video makes it sound louder than it is.
Well I can tell you that in my case, the case does not require any force to notice it compared to my two other pairs. It's very loose as in you can literally see the top moving from side to side.

Ok, that sounds like mine.
The clue to how much movement there is in our lids is to look at the gaps on either side of the hinge - see the two vertical gaps? (about 8 seconds into my video)…ours are pretty much identical ie. nothing to worry about.

Although, I’m thinking 95%…It's normal. not going to say 100% all of them but rather 90%.
After every product launch these Apple forums especially seem to attract newby OCD sufferers complaining about minutiae imperfections in their newly-purchased mass-produced tech. The last one was someone complaining the lid on his M2 MBP didn't form a perfect seal to the base all the way round and there were small gaps where you could actually slip in something as thick as a piece of paper. The horror of it.
How Apple positions itself as the purveyor of premium products is, I think, partly to blame for this. People visualise Apple products hand-assembled over a period of weeks to micrometer tolerances by a team of highly-paid specialists in white surgical overalls and loupes in their glasses. In truth they're mostly assembled by robots and quality-checked by Mr Wang who checks 1,000 of them a day for the price of a sachet of rice.
Many of us have gen 1 APP with PERFECT hinge mechanisms and zero squeaking. I've been using and abusing my gen 1 for years and the hinge is still perfect. Snaps closed without a rattle, zero wobble, zero creaking. If Apple themselves set the bar with gen 1 then we are entirely entitled to complain about a drop in quality with gen 2.
The same people like you that are bemoaning "OCD" complainers were probably the same people praising gen 1's excellent hinge as "another brilliant Apple attention to detail moment." Almost every gen 1 review I remember praised the case hinge quality over competitors, were you complaining about that praise back then? I guess attention to detail is only valid when praise is the outcome rather than critique.
Not for me. Every time I pick it up: squeak. Every time I place it down: squeak, rattle. Every time I close it: squeak, rattle, and tinny closing sound. A complete divergence from gen 1.
Upload a video. I’m curious as I’ve never seen/heard a defective AirPods Pro case.
Unfortunately I already exchanged them, they were considerably more annoying than yours though based on the video. I’m not usually one to exchange an iPhone because of a small factory mark or something cosmetic but the squeak was bad enough that people on the other end of a room were looking at me when I was fiddling with it to figure out what was going on.
My exchange unit is a lot more in line with what I’ve come to expect from gen 1. I can now pick the case up and fiddle with it and zero sound is produced.
I regret not filming the first case if only to spite the apologists. $250 headphones shouldn’t squeak 🐁 at the slightest touch.
I have the same problem. It feels like a really cheap case in comparison to my AirPods 2 wireless charging case (non-pro). Will probably ask for a replacement as this seems defective and not normal to me. I can't touch them without making these strange sounds as if the case is going to fall apart.
I think Mr. Wang deserves a pay cut here. We’re going to have to call this creak-gate!
