General iCloud photos issues...

I have 42,000ish photos in the cloud via my iMac.
I have a 64gb iPad Air that sees all of them with iCloud photos.
When I goto click on one it shows the downloading symbol and stops at the 1/4 of the way finished.
Just sits there. This is on wifi or LTE. I have plenty of space on the pad. Can't think of anything else. It's super frustrating, especially when trying to send a text of a photo. It either takes forever, or not at all.

Also, my 16gb iPhone is always full now with photos turned on.
Usage shows 2.1 gb of "photos"
So if I can get a photo taken, I'll quickly get a "not enough storage to take a photo"

There's no more "camera roll" to delete photos from the phone since they are supposedly in the cloud.

I've hooked up to image capture on my Mac and it shows a few hundred pics, and won't let me delete them.

Anyone having these issues, or any advice would be awesome. Thanks in advance

As for the iPad: Try going to Seetings - Photos & Camera and disabling and enabling iCloud Photos. That's the only thing I can think of to troubleshoot this.

As for the iPhone, there's a setting called "optimise device storage" in the same Photos settings that will only store caches of photos locally, and will only download originals as needed. Though I'm suspecting that you probably have that enabled alreadyt and the 2GBs you're seeing of space being used by photos is just for the thumbnails of 42.000 photos. If that's the case, then you'll need a bigger iPhone as your library is quite large.

I believe you're correct with my library size and the previews. I was using the "optimize" feature. I just went ahead and disabled iCloud photos on my phone and just left on photo stream. Unfortunately/ fortunately my work gives me a phone, but it's limited to 16gb max.

I went ahead and cycled iCloud photos on the pad. Will report back if I see any significant changes.

You just gave me an idea actually.
When I updated my iPhoto it kept all the old events. On my Mac they are collapsed so I don't really see them. On my iCloud they all show up. A ton of events. I wonder.... Can I go into iPhoto on the Mac and safely delete events, still keep the photos? Then maybe it'll be a little more streamlined for the cloud?
