Hey all,

I am going to be getting the new iPad Pro and thinking of getting the 128GB option.

I am just wanting to know if I do go for this option and for some reason needed more storage. Would I be able to add an external storage device via usb c to gain more storage if I needed the space?

Would taking photos and videos on the iPad Pro take up a lot of space?

I am getting the iPad on 0% finance and I was looking to add on the magic keyboard to the finance. However I am also thinking maybe I should just wait out and see what other manufacturers are going to bring out when it comes to a keyboard with trackpad for the iPad Pro or then I think do I really need a physical keyboard so what I would want to know is. How long typically does it take for other manufacturers to bring out like for like products against the magic keyboard?

Also can I ask for those of you who use iPads for writing up documents and reports and general typing on the on screen keyboard how are you finding it? Do you feel their is really a must to get a physical keyboard or does the onscreen keyboard suit your needs. I know the feedback will be different because everyone has different uses. However be interesting to find out.

just to add I currently have. 256GB xr and have 171.3GB left. I have had my xr a few months after launch. However if I want the iPad Pro to last a long time is it worth possibly getting the 256gb or just using the solution of external storage if I ever needed it?

thanks in advance

As for external storage, it will be clunky and you can pretty much only use those to store files, since apps can’t be installed on them, photos taken can’t be stored on them directly, can’t store Apple Music on them etc. Please keep this in mind.

And yes, taking photo/video on iPad Pro will take up a lot of space.

I have no idea about the timeline manufacturer releasing iPad Pro compatible accessories, but you can always go to a local Apple store and try out apple’s solution first. Also, apple’s solution has the best compatibility compared to others.

I say get the 128GB and use cloud storage -> Optimize photos on iPad. That is what I do.
5GB goes a long way for photos, but I opt for the 200GB cloud plan for about $36US / year ( billed monthly ).
You can even share any extra storage with your family.

I settled for the 128GB and got an external USD drive that is also 128GB for less than £20. I also use cloud storage and other online storages to minimise use of my base storage on the IPAD itself.

I am a university student and recently with the release of the new magic keyboard have been using my IPAD for the past week constantly writing up assessments and other related materials and in my opinion an external keyboard whether its the magic keyboard or not IS ESSENTIAL. I can say the the new magic keyboard albeit expensive, is completely worth it but that’d be your own judgement. Definitely recommend YouTube recommendation videos in order to decide if its worth it to yourself.

I will be getting the 128GB one. As I do have 2TB iCloud storage on my iPhone. I guess I will be able to use that on the iPad right?

Yes, external storage drives work well with the iPad Pro.

thanks for that.

I was going to get 128, but went with 256 because the jump in price was only a little more. My reason for this was if video editing gets more capable, I wanted space for working files. Also have 1TB cloud with Microsoft 365 and a 512GB SSD for local backup.

I have small hands and can comfortably type with the 11” screen keyboard, some mistakes here and there but getting use to it quickly, typing with all my fingers (pinkies not so much). Mainly typing in messenger, forums and writing cover letters hunting for work. As I mainly use as a tablet, I couldn’t justify the price of the Magic Keyboard.
