i know i have read a post on this somewhere.... so if someone could direct me, i would like that.

I have a ibook g4 running tiger. I have 80g hd with 25 free gigs. 512+256 ram and recently things have just been sllooowwwiinngg ddoowwnnn oonnn mmmmeeeeee. blah.

I just seem to be getting prolonged beach balls and things just arent snappy in anything. What can i do about this? Thanks a bunch folks.

Repair Permissions. Make sure that your computer is recognizing all RAM.

Check Activity Monitor to see if you have any memory leaks.

Boot from install DVD and repair disk.

how do i repair permissions..... and in activity monitor... how can i tell if i have a leak?

thanks

for repair permissions

Applications >>> Utilities >>> Disk Utility

and for activity monitor

Look at the two images attached.

Also Check to see how many Page Outs you have.

If you have a lot of Page Outs, restart your machine then check to see how many page outs occur and how rapidly. If they occur rapidly you may need more RAM

For memory leak check the Real Memory and if anything is substantially high, then you may have an issue

In Activity Monitor, maybe select All Processes from the drop down menu, instead of just My Processes.

Also, a good starting tip is to create a new user account from System Preferences and see whether the issues carry across. :)
