Hi. I have bought my first mac with Lion installed and Lion is the first and only mac os version I have ever used. During the time I have spent in this forum I have seen a lot of mac users being reluctant to upgrade to Lion from Snow Leopard. What would be the general opinion on the Mountain Lion ? Is it going to be a proper replacement for the SL if you think Lion is not?

More generally, what are you going to do? Upgrades aren't just about features, they're also about fixing existing bugs, improving security, enabling new hardware, etc etc. Sometimes you can skip a maintenance type release, but eventually you're gonna have to upgrade, unless you just want to freeze the existing software and hardware you have. It's a fact of life in computing.
And I can summarize the general opinion: most upgrade. There are more Mac users running Lion and Mountain Lion than running Panther. Eventually most everyone does, and most of what you see here, by contrast, is the people with the problems. Not many of us are likely to bother to go online and say "I installed Mountain Lion and meh, it works." About as newsworthy as uncapping a new tube of toothpaste, but nevertheless necessary eventually.

I'm not gonna read each and every page in this forum to get an answer. There could be answers, but no. Im not gonna read the whole database.
I would skip an upgrade and wait for the next one if I feel like its not suitable for my computing habits. I would not consider an year or two old OS as out dated specially if apple provides support.
It doesn't mean that we should be swallowing what ever the thing computer manufactures are throwing at us. We got to use our brains a bit too isn't it?

There isn't a consensus on ML. Some like it; some don't. The real question to ask yourself is if ML has something you want or need, that your current version doesn't provide. There is no need to upgrade to a new OS X version just because one is released. If your current version meets your needs and ML doesn't offer anything you want or need, stick with what you have.
