General Reliability of White 24" iMac

I'm looking to buy a desktop for light home use and am considering a used 24" White iMac. I dislike the new glossy screens, or I would buy a new iMac.

However, we have a few 20" White iMacs at work and many of them have had video card (aka motherboard) replacements. Do you know if the 20" suffers the same issues? We have also had at least 1 LCD on the 20" go out.

Anyone familiar with the trend as these 24" machines get older?

I have a 24" White Intel iMac, and its great! I've got Tiger on it, and the only issue I've had with it is the superdrive doesn't work... But apart from that, I've had it for 5 years and its a great machine!

The white imacs are great! I've got a few at work and since I oversee the maintenance I can say they are very reliable. Of course theres no guarantee that yours will be a good piece There are always bad apples to be found

No problems with my revision b white 24" Intel iMac, bought in August of 2007.

I bought a closeout white model just after the aluminum models were introduced for the same reason as you - preferred the matte screen to glossy.

If you look for a used one, I'd suggest a "later" one. I'm _guessing_ these are known as "revision b's", but not sure how to distinguish an early white Intel iMac from a later one. Perhaps someone else reading this could clarify.

Are those white iMacs at work G5's? They look the same as the Intel models but are notorious for faulty capacitors. Causing video or full system failures.

I was thinking this as well. I have an iMac G5 iSight and haven't had any problems though (knock on wood)
