I don't know if this is a commonly-known thing that I'm just unaware of or whatever, but is it possible to change what my caller ID info displays when I call someone?

For example, when I call home (a land line), it always says "North Carolina Call" and then displays my phone number. On my old Sprint phone, it always showed my name, rather than "North Carolina Call"...

Is there somewhere online in my AT&T account I can change this, or will I have to call about it?

Well you can get someone from somewhere other than North Carolina to call you :)

You should be able to get your Name attached to the caller ID. If you call someone with you in their phone book, your name (or at least your entry) will appear in the Caller ID.

Well I'm in North Carolina myself, which is why it says that. Even calling someone else here in the same state, it says that. I've talked to friends from New York, Alabama, Florida, and Washington, but nothing's changed, so not entirely sure what your point is :)

Yes, I know that if they store my name in their address book whatever they save will show up, but I just prefer to have the default caller ID entry say my name instead of something so generic. My parents don't use the address book on their home phone, so they always have to look at the number to see if it's me calling, rather than being able to just see my name like it does with everyone else.

Yeah, if you call AT&T they can change it for you. I'm on a family plan so my dad's name would always show up, but we called and had them put a name to every phone for us.

I called AT&T a few weeks ago because my caller ID showed as Cell Phone and the number. I was surprised at how seriously they took my questions. Top notch service!

Anyway, it looked to them like my name should be showing. They gave me a test number to call. The rep called me back after I called that number and told me that the ID did in fact show my name. Apparently not all local phone companies download the data needed for them to show the complete information. The fault apparently lies with my local telco.

I thought that was interesting. And I've stopped obsessing about it - even better!

thanks all, I guess I'll give AT&T a call when I get a chance then, I just wasn't sure if it was something I could take care of online quickly or not.

It's not really an issue for me, but my parents for some reason don't want to store numbers in their land line phone, and sometimes they don't answer on the first try if I call because they didn't realize it was me... so I figure it's a simple fix, so might as well do it
