Genius didn't erase content and settings

They swapped my 3GS out at the Apple Store this evening, and I just realized they didn't erase my content and settings. The Genius wrapped my old phone and put it in the box. All of my music, contacts, messages, etc. are still on the phone. That doesn't concern me as much as my email account does. I had (1) Gmail account set up on my iPhone. Does this mean that an employee or someone else has access to my Gmail account now?

Well, they just wrapped it to send to wherever they take it apart and make it all shiny new again. So, I'd think they'll wipe it then. However, to be safe, you should change your password.

When they swapped it, they should have had you sign something that says they swiped it or w/e.

Well that's what happened when I swapped mine.

If you have MobileMe you could see if it is on. Then do a remote wipe

Just hope that it doesn't find it's way to someone like myself who can forensically analyze an iPhone.

Odds are however that whoever gets it when it's refurbed won't attempt to recover any data but it would be possible.

Actually there is nothing paranoid about it at all. I would be just as concerned.

Don't worry, your phone will go thru the refurbishing process. By the time the NAND Flash chip you had gets to a new iPhone, it will have been wiped at least 2 times.

Edit - Its fine to be paranoid about your personal information.

Yeah, I always delete all pics from camera roll, sync to iTunes to remove other photos and delete all mail accounts, text messages and notes before taking my iPhone to the genius bar for replacement. And between the 3 iPhone versions, I've replaced about 10 phones, lol!!
