iPad Pro Genuine iPad Cable - Help!!

Hi Everyone!
Hope you can help. I purchased an iPad Pro last year - ( second hand from eBay ) really happy with it. The cable that came with it ( I never questioned ) - but recently I wanted to purchase the same USBC - USBC cable to have on my desk so I could plug it into my MacBook. When the replacement cable ( apparently genuine from eBay ) arrived - it’s not like the one that came in the box from eBay. I’ve taken some pictures of both cables - and I’m unsure which is the genuine cable. One cable seems thicker and also has like a grey bit underneath the white connector where the cable starts. I’ve taken pictures of both - and if you could guide me to which is the genuine one and which isn’t - I’d be really grateful.

I’m just trying to work out if when I bought the iPad, the guy put a fake aftermarket one in the box that I’ve been using for the last year - OR - is the genuine one I’ve bought yesterday off eBay a fake because it looks so different.

my advice is to get an certified cable or a reliable source like OSC or Satechi- I love their new one!
eBay does have crooks out there, a few but don't get snake bitten!

Thank you for the advice. That’s good to know. I’m just trying to work out which is the genuine one. After looking at some images of cables from Apple, it looks like the one with the little sleeve under the white connector could be the genuine one - as the other one ( that’s pictured that came with the iPad from eBay ) doesn’t have the sleeve!!

For reference - the one with the sleeve is the one on the right in the picture below - and this is the one that’s a bit thicker.

the 2 different lengths on the plug has me worried!
but it is USB C were nothing will fray off like my situation.

I just checked the cable that came with my Dad’s sealed Air 4 and it does not have that extra sleeve on the cable. It looks like the one you got with your iPad.

All apple made cords have a sleeve on the connector end of the cable. Thank you and have a great day. I just looked at the cord on my ipad 9.

This is the cable that came with my iPad Pro purchased from Apple. It’s identical to the cable that came with my iPad mini 6, which is why I haven’t used it yet.

Edit: just for grins, showing how large the Apple Watch Ultra‘s (fast charging) cable is.

They both appear genuine. But designed for different Apple products. i compared your pics with the genuine Apple cables I have for my Apple products and the thicker cable is identical to the one that came with my MacBook and the thinner matches the replacement cable I bought for my iPad at the Apple Store. Hope this helps. See attached.

p.s. - some resellers of used Apple devices mix and match different Apple cords when shipping out products. It’s all the same as they see it and don’t split hairs as to which Apple cord came with which device. It’s white, it fits, then it ships. Still genuine…lol

The cable included with iPad Air/Pro doesn’t have a strain relief. This is normal. The ones that Apple sells individually currently do (except for braided ones). However, Apple changes specs over the years. Back in 2018, the Apple USB-C cables in a box didn’t have a strain relief either.

Check for a serial number along the length of the cable. Ideally, you’ll need a cable tester and e-mark reader. Looking at the connector itself tells you nothing about whether it’s genuine.
